UW Medical Center - Nutrition Therapy has an outstanding opportunity for an OUTPATIENT REGISTERED DIETITAN .

WORK SCHEDULE

  • 60% FTE, Days POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Responsible for seeing a wide variety of patients including diabetes, pregnancy, pediatrics, weight loss, MS, and Cardiovascular Disease

  • Understands the role of nutrition in chronic disease and acute illness; experience with alternative feeding modalities such as Tube feeding; and maintaining current knowledge of best practices in nutrition care

  • Responsible for providing patient education; facilitating communication between other members of the Food and Nutrition Department and healthcare teams; and working with UW interns and students PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design evidence-based nutrition care plans for high acuity outpatient population based on nutrition diagnosis and as outlined by departmental standards of care protocols and policies.

  • Provide effective nutrition education to patients and their care providers taking into consideration their learning abilities, readiness to learn, and cultural beliefs.

  • Ability to work with a diverse patient population with referrals for Gestational Diabetes, Diabetes, Weight loss, IBS, Celiac disease, Cardiovascular Disease, HTN, MS, Neurology, and Pediatrics.

  • Perform Nutrition Focused Physical Assessment and apply AND/ASPEN malnutrition criteria as appropriate.

  • Provide ongoing evaluation and monitoring of patients in accordance with the medical teams by documenting patient progression toward meeting prescribed goals in the electronic medical record, communicating with other members of the healthcare team, and attending patient care conferences

  • Provide recommendations for nutrition support. This includes appropriate recommendations for diet prescriptions as well as for tube feeding and TPN.

  • Actively participate in interdisciplinary care and process improvement teams.

  • Maintain current clinical knowledge of best practices for nutrition and actively participate in the process of developing and reevaluating standards of care protocols and education materials.

  • Precept dietetic interns and UW Nutrition Graduate students.

  • Model UW Medicine service culture guidelines and exemplify UW Medicine Patients are First philosophy

  • Position the Nutrition Department to exceed expectations of the medical/surgical teams by developing rapport with physicians, nurse managers, clinic managers and other members of the patient care teams. REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor's degree involving major study in food and nutrition or dietetics AND Registration as a Dietitian by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics within three (3) months of hire AND Washington State Dietitian Certification within six (6) months of hire.
