Port of Seattle Occupational Health Nurse- Certified in Seattle, Washington
Some of what you'll be doing:
The Port of Seattle is seeking dynamic and experienced Certified Occupational Health Nurse to be part of the Port’s Health and Safety team. In coordination with the overall efforts of the Health and Safety team, you will ensure that all health and safety standards are met to safeguard the health and well-being of employees through collaborative relationships established across Port of Seattle work sites. The Certified Occupational Health Nurse will assess, plan, and provision for preventative measures that ensure the health and safety of workers through hazard identification at the workplace.
The Occupational Health Nurse follows Port’s departmental policies and procedures in the development and implementation of programs. This position reports to and works in collaboration with the Director of Health and Safety.
You will develop and implement health and safety programs to safeguard the health and wellbeing of the workforce.
You will observe, assess, investigate and report potential dangers and hazards within the work environment.
You will design and implement preventative measures that reduce potential dangers and hazards in the work environment.
You will conduct surveillance and research on the effects of hazardous work conditions or workplace exposures.
You will develop and conduct worker health surveillances to assess, prevent, and monitor for occupational health exposures.
You will document employee injuries, illnesses, and exposures within the workplace and report to leadership and regulatory agencies as warranted.
You will strive to ensure that all health and safety standards are met to safeguard the health and well-being of the workforce, including training to Port staff.
Who you are:
Two years of experience may be substituted for one year of education:
Experienced – You have at least Five (5) years of health and safety surveillance program development and implementation to identify, reduce and prevent harm in the workforce.
Educated – You possess a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Current Washington State RN License, and be Certified Occupational Health Nurse or Certified Occupational Health Nurse-Specialist, that will help you succeed.
Desired – We hope you have Seven (7) years of advanced health and safety surveillance program development and implementation to identify, reduce and prevent harm in the workforce, but it’s okay if you’re not.
Expertise – You must have a sound understanding of occupational and environmental hazards and diseases, hazard recognition and risk reduction methodology, and principles of toxicology. Stay current on emerging issues in occupational health, health promotion, injury, and disease prevention. Apply Adult Learning methodologies, Workforce Health Surveillance programs and Regulatory Compliance with regulatory or guidance agencies including but not limited to Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Washington Department of Labor and Industries, Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, Washington Administrative Code, National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, National Fire Protection Association and local public health entities
Data Analysis- You are experienced in researching, writing, and oral communication, project/program management, detailed documentation, record keeping, report writing, data analysis, trending and forecasting, computer and database skills, technical skills for industrial hygiene monitoring, and health surveillance including troubleshooting, calibrating, and using specialized equipment. Keen observation skills to determine hazardous conditions in the work environment.
Interpersonal and Political Savvy – Your ability to engage diverse audiences, listens to different perspectives, build rapport, and defuses high tension situations comfortably. Anticipate obstacles and plan accordingly. Work with composure and deal effectively and diplomatically with internal and external stakeholders.
What else you need to know:
Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays. You may be required to work during emergencies.
Work Environment – You will primarily work in an office environment and at times may be asked to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. You may be exposed to areas of high noise, various hazardous materials, work at heights and/or in confined spaces.
Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, will be required to pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment may be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.
