The School of Social Work has an outstanding opportunity for a MSW Recruitment Specialist to join their team. POSITION PURPOSE The Office of Admissions is dedicated to building recruitment, outreach, and admissions practices that support the social justice mission of the University of Washington School of Social Work. We aim to recruit, advise, and admit students who are committed to developing and strengthening the values, knowledge and skills necessary to be effective social workers and change-makers. Under the guidance and supervision of the Director of Admissions, this position implements student recruitment efforts for the School of Social Work.

The University of Washington’s Master of Social Work (MSW) program is consistently ranked among the top 10 graduate programs in the country and is one of the largest graduate programs at the University of Washington, averaging over 700 applicants annually. The MSW Recruitment Specialist is responsible for development and overall implementation of a wide range of outreach and recruitment efforts to create pathways and access for a diverse population of applicants to the School of Social Work’s professional degree programs (i.e. MSW and Bachelor of Arts in Social Welfare programs). The MSW Recruitment Specialist will represent this nationally recognized program as the lead admissions counselor for prospective MSW students, and act as the primary contact person for all requests for program information from both individuals and organizations. Responsibilities include planning/coordinating admissions events; advising applicants to the School of Social Work about program requirements and application processes; managing recruitment data, event calendars, and website content; taking the lead on development of recruitment materials; hiring, supervising, and directing student employees; and providing project support to the Director and others within the Admissions team. The position requires someone skillful in supporting and communicating with a diverse array of people, including students, faculty, staff, University colleagues, external clients and partners. The successful candidate will be able to independently lead initiatives and projects with delegated authority, a high degree of autonomy, and with a high expectation of strategic thinking, a problem-solving orientation, and a deep commitment to equity and excellence.

The MSW Recruitment Specialist collaborates to promote a positive public impression of accessible and excellent, high-quality programs at the University. The School of Social Work stands out as an example of an academic unit that recruits talented and diverse scholars at all degree levels. Historically over half of all students are students of color and/or first generation; therefore, admissions to the UW School of Social Work not only provides a gateway for students to achieve their professional goals but is a model across campus on how to promote diversity within a professional discipline. The MSW Recruitment Specialist works in concert with other academic and university units to promote the University within communities that have historically been underrepresented at the University.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Recruitment, Advising & Outreach (50%)

  • Advances multicultural outreach and recruitment of first-generation scholars, students of color, and traditionally underrepresented populations to the MSW Program.

  • Establishes and strengthens relationships with community groups and broader networks to drive engagement and outreach to diverse groups.

  • Represents the School at local and national events (20+ external recruiting events), includes regional and out-of-state travel, some evening and weekend work will be required.

  • Acts as an initial point of contact regarding degree programs, advises prospective students on program offerings, admission application requirements and processes, and opportunities within the field via email, phone, virtual and in-person appointments, and drop-in advising.

  • Maintains up-to-date MSW advising resources, supports onboarding of team members, and communicates changes for cross-training.

  • Promotes a culture of collaboration where faculty, staff and alumni feel encouraged to partner with the Admissions Office so that they can engage with prospective students on their own, leveraging the school’s wide range of expertise and talent.

  • Act as a point person for all things related to MSW outreach and recruitment.Program Management (45%)

  • Direct and oversee implementation of on-campus and virtual prospective MSW student programming, including managing approximately 20+ school-sponsored information sessions/recruitment events (e.g. program information sessions/webinars, open houses, and Prospective Student Days).

  • Co-lead annual recruitment plan and support strategy for all parts of MSW admissions, including recruitment goals and targets.

  • Plan and implement large departmental-wide efforts such as the MSW Admitted Student Preview Days in partnership with the MSW Program Office and Student Services.

  • Leads all MSW advising, outreach, and recruitment data analysis and evaluation efforts to improve strategy; develop and maintain a prospective MSW student database for tracking inquiries, monitoring and managing data about prospective students and events.

  • Joint management and supervision of Graduate Student Assistants (Student Information Specialists who serve as admissions advisers/recruiters) and work study employees, including scheduling, hiring, and coordination with HR.

  • Collaborate with SSW marketing and communications team and UW Continuum College on communications and marketing for MSW programs, including managing the design and development of recruitment materials and digital content; manages design and purchasing of promotional materials.

  • Manage and maintain admissions webpages, including the newly admitted student website.

  • Manage and maintain the online appointment scheduling systems for the unit and Admissions Events Calendar.

  • Support the development of admissions social media content and targeted email campaigns.

  • Serve as a liaison, to strengthen and/or cultivate relationships on campus, partnering with programs and resources including Graduate Student Equity and Excellence Office (GSEE), Ethnic Cultural Center (ECC), Intellectual House / Tribal Liaison, The Q Center, Student Veteran Life, UW Health Professions Recruitment Collaborative, and more.

  • Collaborate with different teams on projects and events relevant to SSW Admissions.Additional Duties as Assigned (5%)

  • Engage in professional development and maintain awareness of recruitment best practices.

  • Assist the Admissions team with application processing, funding review, and other duties as needed. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Social Welfare, Human Services, Student Affairs, or a related field. Equivalent experience may substitute for degree requirement.

  • Two to three years of experience developing recruitment/outreach strategy and leading initiatives to include at least one year of higher education administration, advising/counseling, student outreach/recruitment, or providing student support services Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent customer service skills and orientation, and strong attention to detail

  • Commitment to social justice and demonstrated experience serving diverse populations

  • Website editing experience

  • Event planning experience

  • Experience with data management, analysis, and reporting

  • Skilled in Microsoft tools such as Excel, Forms, etc.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent problem solving, and time management skills DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in college admissions, data-informed recruitment, or early outreach and engagement with youth in Washington and an understanding of the distinctive qualities of the UW.

  • Understanding of the community college landscape in WA state.

  • Knowledge of the Puget Sound region’s social services, nonprofit sector, or community-based social justice organizations; experience building partnerships with external groups and/or organizations.

  • Communications/marketing - experience utilizing CRMs, developing social media/digital strategy, graphic design, etc.

  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Canva, or other graphic design tools.

  • Experience working effectively with high volumes of public contact.
