$10,000 Sign-On Bonus to eligible new employees joining UW Medicine HARBORVIEW'S INTERPRETER SERVICES department has an outstanding opportunity for a Medical Interpreter, American Sign Language (ASL) WORK SCHEDULE

  • 24-40 hours per week

  • Day Shift = 3-5 set weekday shifts POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Enable patient(s) to access medical care.

  • Be a part of a team dedicated to improving language access. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide spoken language, ASL, and tactile interpretation to patients, medical providers, and staff in person or via video-phone in complex medical settings

  • Manage complexity of cross-cultural encounter.

  • Utilize/integrate ethical practice to guide behavior in all interpretations.

  • Consult with provider prior to encounter.

  • Assess patients’ interpretation needs.

  • Explain and clarify cultural behaviors. REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Certification from any one of the following is required within one year of employment:> Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (RID):Certificate of Interpretation (CI) or Certificate of Transliteration (CT), or equivalent grandfathered levels;> National Association of the Deaf (NAD): Level IV or V;> National Interpreter Certification (NIC): Advanced or Master level.ANDOne year of ASL interpreting experience in a specialty/hospital medical setting;ORTwo years of ASL interpreting experience in other types of medical setting.OREquivalent education/experience except when there are legal requirements.
