This role is part of the Lunar Transportation business unit, which develops Blue Origin's multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers who develop and test cryocoolers designed for zero-boiloff (ZBO) applications, you will focus on the rapid design and implementation of mechanical components for gas processing high-speed turbomachinery. Your expertise in mechanical design will be utilized for all aspects of designing, building, and testing turbomachinery components for use in Brayton cycle cryocoolers and power systems. You will lead the complete life cycle from requirements definition, analysis, design, development, manufacturing, assembly, verification, integration, and flight. This position is based in Kent, WA. Special Mentions : Relocation provided. Interviews will include a technical assessment. Minimum Qualifications: B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or related field 3+ years' experience in mechanical design, manufacturing, and testing. Fundamental knowledge of mechanical design and assembly Experience with CAD software (Creo, Solidworks etc..) Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion. Excellent verbal, written communication skills, including presenting complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Preferred Qualifications: Master's or Ph.D. degree in mechanical or Aerospace engineering or related field Familiarity with gas bearing turbomachinery components. Experience with FEA tools for structural and thermal analysis (ANSYS workbench is preferred) Experience with high-speed data acquisition systems and instrumentation such as, thermocouples, accelerometers, proximity probes, etc.. Experience with developing, writing, and updating technical procedures, standards, and specifications. Highly organized, safety and quality conscious, and ability to work independently on rapid development programs.
