Blue Origin LLC Materials & Process Engineer II - Statistical Methods in Seattle, Washington

This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight. As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers and process experts, you will be responsible for deriving design allowables for a range of materials & processes related to the selection, design, and manufacturing of Blue Engines. Responsibilities: Work with cross-functional teams that are responsible for selecting materials, manufacturing processes, and suppliers to produce world class aerospace hardware Lead or support the creation of test plans for the specific purpose of deriving design allowables for materials & processes not currently covered by MMPDS Complete advanced statistical analyses through careful down-selection and/or adaptation of available tools & methods, consistent with internal and external best practices Perform data reduction activities for purposes of providing material inputs for life prediction analyses Deliver internally-reviewed reports & presentations of completed work Support the development of a structural materials database for structural engineers and M&P engineers across Blue Origin Qualifications: B.S. degree or higher in applied mathematics, materials science & engineering or related field Experience evaluating data populations (preferably mechanical test) fit against various statistical distribution (normal, lognormal, weibull, etc.) and leveraging this data to output representative values to be used for aerospace design. Experience developing and executing plans for material characterization Experience & understanding of the material property trade-offs across a range of aerospace metallic materials Experience interacting with aerospace suppliers and/or OEMs relative to material/component qualifications Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and handle small and large projects with a diversity of systems. Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Desired: 2+ years experience in the field of statistical analysis of metallic material properties, with expert knowledge of statistical methods best suited for a range of applications 2+ years experience working for a producer of wrought aerospace metallic materials or an aerospace OEM Process knowledge of various engineered metallic forms (additive manufacturing, forging, casting, etc) Working knowledge of a range of welding & inspection methods Expert knowledge of how to define designs of experiments Working knowledge of fracture and fatigue testing methods Compensation Range for: WA applicants is $89,820.00-$125,748.00 Other site ranges may differ Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.
