We’re looking for an amazing ISM Manager to fill this role, which is based in our Seattle or Miami offices. You’ll be responsible for the continuous monitoring, troubleshooting, and enhancement of the Global HESS system. This role demands a proactive approach to ensure the system’s optimal performance and requires exceptional self-motivation, meticulous attention to detail, and outstanding communication skills. You’ll be responsible for overseeing and analyzing system modules, managing Suggestions and Self-Reported Non-Conformities, resolving account issues, and updating the Task Module. Additionally, the role involves coordinating and disseminating approved publications and revisions of policies and procedures on a weekly and monthly basis. Key attributes for success include the ability to make independent decisions, effective communication, collaboration across teams, problem-solving skills, and expertise in maritime audits, risk management, safety, and compliance. Challenges include managing varying workloads, ongoing improvement efforts, and collaborating with diverse personalities and departments. Additionally, the position supports the implementation of the ISM Code across the 17 ships within the fleet, including management of the Governance Dashboard, co-managing Internal/External audit finding action plans, as well as trend analysis and scheduling of audit and inspections as applicable.

Responsibilities:
Policy and Procedure Management:
- Publish new and revised policies, procedures, and associated attachments to the GHESS (Global Health, Environment, Safety, and Security) system. Ensure accuracy and completeness of documentation, and compliance with relevant regulations and standards. Establish and maintain procedures for the role’s duties.
Communication and Relationship Management:
- Maintain a strong working relationship and communication with various departments throughout the company and cross company (ABG/ other brands) where applicable. Maintain operational awareness of ships' activities as they relate to the SMS System and ISM compliance engage with relevant stakeholders as needed.
Audit Review and Reporting:
- Prepare, present, and facilitate audit reviews for DPAs and management, ensuring clarity and thoroughness in presentation. Conduct follow-up activities as necessary following audit reviews to address any outstanding issues or concerns. Track, review, analyze, and present relevant data to management through periodic, annual, and monthly reporting, providing insights for continuous improvement.
Oversight and Continuous Improvement:
- Co-manage ISM internal audits and follow-up audits, ensuring adherence to established processes and standards. Track the status of audit findings to closure and work towards standardization of audit processes. Initiate suggestions for policies related to audit activities, develop proposed wording, and seek approval for audit-related policies, initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts. Identify and analyze trends in audit findings and facilitate further actions, such as process improvements or additional training, as applicable.
ISM Internal Root Cause Analysis and Action Planning:
- Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to identify root causes of audit findings. Develop comprehensive action plans to address identified issues. Ensure proof of completion for action items and work towards closing, resolving, and completing findings.
System Enhancement Coordination:
- Coordinate and implement both minor and major enhancements to the GHESS system in collaboration with Corporate and IT teams. Facilitate communication between stakeholders to ensure timely and effective implementation of enhancements.
Module Management and Analysis:
Manage procedure Suggestions, task module, monthly, updates of multiple modules throughout the system on a regular basis (weekly, monthly, quarterly), identifying trends, areas for improvement, and potential risks.
Ensure tasks are properly assigned, tracked, and updated as necessary.
Problem Troubleshooting and Support :
- Troubleshoot problems encountered both onboard and shoreside related to the GHESS system, providing timely resolution and support to users. Collaborate with relevant teams and stakeholders to address technical issues and ensure system functionality.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Nautical Science. Deck, Engine License or equivalent maritime certification, safety, or compliance related experience.
Minimum 5 years of maritime industry or seagoing experience as Deck or Engine Office or
Minimum 5 years of safety or compliance related maritime experience
Knowledgeable in Maritime or Passenger Shipping Operations
Experience working with a safety management system program and providing feedback or developing new procedures for continuous improvement of that system.
Experience working with Microsoft Office.
Knowledge of other applications such as power BI, MS Lists and flows, and forms a plus
Effective oral/written communication skills, analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to present to Leadership, to aid in management decision making.
Must have the ability to interface and maintain effective relationships with all departments and employees in a highly diverse environment.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Holland America is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas at this time (e.g., H-1B status).
Please note that this position is HYBRID based in our Seattle or Miami offices. Successful candidate must be within commute distance and able to go into the office 3 days per week.

Base Salary Range: $100,200.00 to $135,300.00. The range is applicable for the labor market where the role is intended to be hired. Final base salary is directly related to each candidates' qualifications and experience uniquely.
