AWS Applications and Higher Level Abstractions (Apps) provides horizontal and industry vertical applications for business users with the same on-demand scalability, reliability, pay-as-you-go pricing, and machine learning expertise that drive AWS services. The AWS Applications group includes services such as Amazon Connect (a cost-effective cloud contact center), our End User Computing (including Amazon Workspaces, AppStream, etc.), Marketing Tech (Amazon Pinpoint), and Autonomous Checkout and Identity Services (Just Walk Out, Amazon One) for retail, sports, travel, and other verticals.

Just Walk Out (JWO), is a new kind of store with no lines and no checkout using the technology—you just grab and go! Customers simply use the Amazon app to enter the store, take what they want from our selection of fresh, delicious meals and grocery essentials, and go!

We are looking for a BIE Manager - who is passionate about customer experience, thinks and acts globally, a strong leader and networker to build successful working relationships across worldwide Amazon JWO network and has the edge to drive industry standard innovations. The ideal candidate will manage a team of data analysts and drive ideation, development, and delivery of solutions that are both scalable and need minimum upkeep effort after delivery. The person will need to effectively communicate across hierarchy and should have the ability to quickly shuffle between looking from senior leadership perspective and understanding the pain points of analysts/engineers/end-users.

This position will be responsible for leading a team of Business Intelligence Engineers (BIEs) across IN building and supporting the business intelligence and analytics platform that supports the Just Walk Out Technology (JWO) overall. The person will be responsible for designing and supporting best-in-class data infrastructure and reporting solutions to aid Product, Program, Tech and Operations team members in decision making. They will continue to raise the bar for the business analytics function and reporting framework.

This role requires an individual with statistical and analytical abilities, deep knowledge of business intelligence solutions and data engineering practices as well as outstanding business acumen and ability to work with various teams across Amazon.

As a BIE Manager, you will develop and implement ideas that drive continuous improvement by simplifying processes and driving automation. This position provides opportunities to influence one of the high visibility/high impact areas in the organization.

Key job responsibilities

You know and love working with business intelligence tools, can model multidimensional datasets, and can partner with customers to answer key business questions. You are analytical and creative, and you don’t quit. You will also have the opportunity to display your skills in the following areas:

Architect, design, implement, and support a platform providing secured access to large datasets.

Interface with technical and non-technical customers delivering complete BI solutions.

Model data and metadata to support ad-hoc and pre-built reporting.

Hire, manage, and coach a team of Business Intelligence Engineers.

Engage with leadership and diversified customer groups to understand the needs and recommend business intelligence solutions.

Strong leadership, vision and passion to build and drive a Business Intelligence team to create changes in business partnerships, analytics, and metrics/reporting.

Drive the design, development and implementation of our analytics to provide stakeholders with structured access to data.

Champion proper adoption of self-service analytic tools and reporting environments.

Own the design, development, and maintenance of ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, and dashboards that monitor and to drive key business decisions.

Basic Qualifications

  • 9+ years of business intelligence and analytics experience

  • 6+ years of delivering results managing a business intelligence or analytics team, including employee development and performance management experience

  • Experience with SQL

  • Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools

  • Experience with R, Python, Weka, SAS, Matlab or other statistical/machine learning software

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4+ years of working with very large data warehousing environment experience

  • 10+ years of data warehouse technical architectures, data modeling, infrastructure components, ETL/ ELT and reporting/analytic tools and environments, data structures and hands-on SQL coding experience

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,100/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
