Port of Seattle Manager, Accounting - Capital Services in Seattle, Washington

Some of what you'll be doing:

As a Manager, Accounting – Capital Services, you will be responsible for the accurate, complete, and timely accounting and reporting of all projects, grants, and assets through their lifecycle. You will provide leadership and direction to a team of accountants, resolve problems, and implement solutions and process improvements.

  • You will manage the monthly closing and year-end accrual processes to ensure proper period reporting and ensure the appropriate accounting for all grant, project costing, and capital asset transactions.

  • You will evaluate processes and systems to identify and mitigate risk, inefficiency and improvement opportunities; identify viable solutions and implement new systems, processes, and procedures as required.

  • You will direct the work of assigned staff, evaluate performance and establish development plans, for each employee to foster growth while ensuring sufficient backups for all critical processes.

  • You will provide financial system and accounting guidance on emerging accounting issues and stay up to date with changing requirements.

  • You will provide regulatory and legal guidance in conjunction with reporting for Passenger Facility Charges (PFC's) and Single Audits.

  • You will act as module lead for PeopleSoft Project Costing and Asset Management modules having full understanding of system module functionality, set-up, configuration and reporting. You will also resolve system issues, test during system upgrades and enhancements and manage delivery of training to end users.

  • You will oversee analysis and resolution of complex accounting irregularities that cross multiple systems and departments.

Who you are:

  • Experienced – You have five (5) years of experience in accounting operations and systems including project costing, assets management, grant administration, and/or related reporting, to include two (2) years of supervisory, leading, or mentoring experience, including leading a project or program related to accounting operations, systems, and/or financial reporting.

  • Certifications – You have an active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.

  • Desired – We hope you have a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics and/or business administration.

  • Expert – You have a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards, and Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200) for federal awards to non-federal entities. You are proficient in complex accounting systems and have a strong ability to write and optimize queries for data retrieval, manipulation, and creating ad-hoc reports for upper-level management.

  • Efficient Communicator – You possess excellent communication skills including active listening and can craft concise, organized, and clear written communications. You can engage in active, open, and productive dialogue and can communicate financial/accounting concepts to non-financial individuals.

  • Analytical – You are skilled in gathering, analyzing, and synthesizing complex data to inform strategy and process improvement. You also have effective and well-developed troubleshooting skills to identify root cause analysis and provide solutions in a timely manner.

  • Adaptable – You are comfortable with learning new technologies and applying them to improve day-to-day operations.

  • Leader – You can build and lead a high performing team and can cultivate and maintain productive and constructive relationships with both internal and external customers at all levels.

What else you need to know:

  • Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.

  • Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management’s discretion.

  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
