Position Purpose Perform skilled work in the operation, maintenance and repair of the Department’s residential facilities, grounds, and equipment. Provide direct customer service to the Department’s residential customers.

Description of Duties • Perform general and preventative maintenance, repair and replacement of plumbing fixtures, lighting fixtures, floors, windows, doors, countertops, cabinetry, and appliances in the Department’s residential facilities. • Perform general maintenance and repair as scheduled to prepare apartments for occupancy. • Operate hand and power tools in a skilled manner. • Coordinate services with Residential Services office staff and other units, including Campus Facilities Services. • Use a computerized work management system. • Drive service truck as required, load and unload materials and supplies. • May lead or instruct helpers or other maintenance workers as required. • Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – UW Contract Classified • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a journey worker, OR full-journey status in a union; OR four years' applicable work experience. Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis.

Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required. Examination Requirements: • The examination (including written, E & T, and oral components) will consist of a scored evaluation of the applicant's experience in mechanical maintenance work; ability to perform demanding physical labor; knowledge of mechanical maintenance and repair techniques; ability to perform general mechanical maintenance and repair of buildings, machinery, and equipment.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Experience working directly with customers or clients • Experience working in a multi-tenant residential or university environment • Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT • A satisfactory outcome from the employment verification and reference check processes. • Possession of a valid State of Washington Driver’s License.
