The FLASH technology team is driving a multi-disciplinary approach to bring FLASH to the world. We are looking for a system engineering lead that will drive collaboration between research and development efforts to define and deliver a suitable integrated device solution.In this role the candidate will collaborate with the product management, clinical experts, marketing managers and engineering teams to define and deliver on the product roadmap.Varian is an Equal Opportunity Employer.In this role, the candidate will be expected to:Drive technology to advance FLASH product development.Work with medical experts, regulatory managers to define clinical and regulatory submission strategies.Work with product managers and engineers to define product and delivery timelines.Support/Guide system architectural development.Provide a strong end to end system perspective to product development.Influence and drive product definition choices with clear supporting rationale.Estimate and manage engineering budget/spend.Drive the high level activities of the engineering teamEvaluate/Approve the engineering designs and results of design evaluationRequirements:Proven ability to lead peopleStrong communication skills to effectively communicate with a technical and non-technical audienceProven ability to deliver productExperience with complex multidisciplinary systems5-10 years of experience working with complex real time control systems, electro-mechanical systems, and vacuum systemsStrong preference of experience with radiation oncology (proton) delivery and treatment planning systemsDegree in Physics or EngineeringPh.D. plus 7years experience, M.S plus 10years experienceExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsNOTE: position can be anywhere in the USTo ensure compliance withapplicable legal requirements in the U.S., including the federal COVID-19 vaccination mandate, all U.S. employees must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, subject to legally required and approved accommodations.Fighting cancer calls for big ideas.We envision a world without fear of cancer.
