The Boeing Global Services (BGS) Flight Efficiency Solutions team is currently looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team in Seattle, WA. This organization supports Boeing’s Digital Aviation Solutions, creating capabilities that enable pilots to fly our airplanes safely and efficiently. You will architect, develop and maintain new capabilities for the Onboard Performance Tool (OPT) application used by airline pilots around the world to perform real-time weight and balance, takeoff, climb out, inflight and landing calculations.

We are looking for a senior software engineer with experience in airplane performance and flight operations. The successful candidate will have experience developing applications for administrators and end users in airline operations, including flight operations and flight crew. Airplane performance domain knowledge required. C++ development experience is required; FORTRAN and SQL skills are a plus. Experience with agile software development, CI/CD environments, and cloud hosting of applications is desirable. Previous customer support and technical product management of airplane performance tools is desirable. Understand of commercial, business and military airplane performance regulations a plus.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads activities to develop, document and maintain architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems.

  • Leads development of code and integration of complex software components into a fully functional software system.

  • Provides technical leadership for software projects and leads software supplier management activities.

  • Leads development, selection, tailoring and deployment of processes, tools and metrics.

  • Plans, executes and documents software research and development projects.

  • Serves as a subject matter expert for software domains, system-specific issues, processes and regulations.

  • Tracks and evaluates software team and supplier performance to ensure product and process conformance to project plans and industry standards.

  • Works under minimal direction.

Export Control

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 1+ years of experience with airplane performance software

  • 1+ years of experience with C++ 5+ years of experience working in a professional environment

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 10+ years of higher education and/or related work experience (Higher education includes college, university, technical school, licensing/certification programs, etc.)

  • Experience developing and supporting applications for airline pilots

  • Experience developing and supporting cloud-hosted applications

  • Flight Operations experience, working directly with airlines

  • Ability to perform in a mission-critical role for our airline customers.

Typical Education & Experience:

Lead (Level 4)

Bachelor's degree and typically 9 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 7 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 4 or more years' experience in an engineering classification.

Senior (Level 5)

Bachelor's degree typically 14 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 12 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 9 or more years' experience

This position is for 1st shift.

Hybrid/Telecommute:

This Hybrid position allows some telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. (Seattle, WA). This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

Summary pay range: 130,900 – 177,100 Lead Level 4

Summary pay range: 161,500 – 218,500 Senior Level 5
