The PATHOLOGY department has an outstanding opportunity for a FULL TIME, DAY SHIFT, LABORATORY HELPER. RESPONSIBILITIES: The LABORATORY HELPER will:

  • Sort and arrange hundreds of glass slides according to laboratory workflow Scan glass slides using computer scanning device and route slides to correct recipients Sort and file patient care related materials such as blocks, slides and patient service request forms Answer telephone inquiries from both internal and external callers Must be able to triage the nature of the call/s to appropriate responders Prepare reagents accurately as needed in the laboratory

  • Maintain/ clean laboratory equipment

  • Report any equipment issues to laboratory supervisor

  • Wash laboratory glassware and containers following laboratory standards. Receive and perform inventories of laboratory supplies

  • Stock and put away supplies as needed

  • Assist technologist and technician in daily duties such as trimming of paraffin blocks, delivery and pick up of formalin fixed specimen, metric preparations, cleaning and unloading of paraffin molds

  • Demonstrate knowledge in procedures relating to Formalin and Xylene spill. Perform other related duties as assigned DESIRED:

  • High School Graduation or equivalent

  • Proficiency in word, excel and power point

  • College credits in science and chemistry or AAS preferred

  • Excellent communication skills
