Aston Carter Lab Technician in Seattle, Washington

Job Title: Laboratory TechnicianJob Description

This role contributes by completing assigned projects and tasks that support the successful execution of global product and equipment development initiatives. It is central and technical, ideal for individuals who want to be closely involved with ongoing activities.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain general orderliness of R&D laboratories and storage areas.

  • Develop and maintain small-scale organizational and inventory systems.

  • Clearly communicate with internal and external customers, including equipment service providers.

  • Order, track, and stock supplies.

  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.

  • Plan lab and equipment utilization, maintain calendars for resource utilization.

  • Ship, receive, and inventory experimental equipment and products.

  • Prepare pallets of equipment and products for shipment to donation centers, recycling, disposal companies, and suppliers.

  • Provide administrative support, such as monitoring instrumentation and lab equipment calibration and maintenance programs, lab files and reports, labeling, and coordinating panels and orientation.

  • Set up and execute laboratory testing as needed. Develop and review protocols and methods. Collect data from lab testing. Dismantle and clean up experiments.

  • Stock and track samples, ingredients, small wares, and equipment.

  • Calibrate and utilize instrumentation.

Essential Skills

  • Basic knowledge of scientific principles, food microbiology, and engineering.

  • Ability to use laboratory instrumentation and analytical equipment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Ability to self-manage, prioritize, and organize work.

  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift approximately 50 lbs.

  • Basic equipment troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Laboratory experimentation skills, including measurement, reporting, and analysis.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.

  • Basic Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing knowledge.

  • Experience with equipment, manufacturing, or industrial background .

  • 3+ years of relevant experience.

  • Previous warehouse experience or similar role (nice to have).

  • Pallet Jack experience (nice to have).

Work Environment

The role involves working on a smaller team that supports labs on the first floor of the SSC. The team is cross-functional, supportive, and consists of 3 lab technicians plus 1 new team member in this role. The work is highly interactive with other lab technicians and involves using technologies such as Microsoft Office, Ariba (invoicing), and Smartsheets. The job requires working on-site 5 days a week, handling ad hoc tasks, and working in ambiguous work environments. The role may also require standing for long periods and lifting heavy items, including maneuvering a heavy pallet jack.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $26.00/hr.
