The Department of Radiology has an outstanding opportunity for an IT Support (Computer Support Technician 2 (NE S SEIU 925 Non Supv)) to join their team.

The Computer Support Technician contributes to the growth & success of the Department by executing the mission and vision. The successful candidate will monitor data center operations; respond to alarms, alerts and events taking place on systems; monitor and maintain backup systems for all departmental servers and workstation systems; update and create new scripts for backup and other routine jobs.

Independently maintain server-based computer support tools such as remote desktop, VPN, automated patching, software auditing, and remote installation. Recommend usage strategies for systems; provide instruction on system/software operation and functionality; write support documentation and prepare user training materials. Install and update systems/software; maintain and update desktop computer and server systems; diagnose and resolve hardware problems and participate in testing and evaluating hardware. This position supports multiple sites at UWHS, UWMC, HMC, VAMC, UDB, and CHRMC. This position also frequently interacts with other clinical and research facilities in the region.

Technical Support

  • Coordinate repair scheduling, complex service requests, records maintenance, service contracts, user accounts, security, and workstation configurations; establish procedures for monitoring and prioritizing system usage

  • Use diagnostic tools and troubleshooting processes to determine if problems are due to equipment, network or application errors;

  • Assist users in the use of a variety of hardware devices and software packages; troubleshoot and resolve problems such as board swapping and revising configuration settings to allow hardware and software operability;

  • Maintain departmental servers, Workgroup Manager, file sharing, permissions, user accounts.

  • Install and configure newly acquired Macintosh & PC computers and various software packages; Maintain records on hardware and software configurations, network performance and configurations.

  • Write, maintain and update users manuals, system support manuals and other types of documentation;

  • Establish requirements for multiple systems interfacing and transferring of files; coordinate implementation of requirements with management, technical staff and users.

  • Train users on specific packaged software applications.

  • May install and configure small local area networks.

  • Perform research and provide information to management regarding new technology and equipment.

  • Maintain and/or modify electrical power and conversion and distribution systems;

  • Confer with manufacturer's representatives in determining equipment problems.

  • Complete work orders such as aligning disk drives, connecting and moving devices, or creating autonomous networks.

  • Develop (or oversee the development and maintenance of) an inventory of spare parts and supplies; may create and maintain database files for equipment inventory.

  • Fabricate cables for use in interfacing peripherals with computers, etc.

  • Prepare and submit warranty claims, parts and documentation associated with warranty repairs to vendors.

  • Contribute to a team atmosphere in working with all internal/external customers. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • One year of experience as a Computer Support Technician I OR equivalent education/experience ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Products – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Professional appearance, communication style, and presentation skills

  • Time management, multi-tasking, detail-oriented, and organization skills

  • Positive attitude to thrive and succeed in a fast-paced environment DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree or other related technical certification training related to Information Technologies and 1 year of experience in the IT industry OR 2 years of work experience in a large enterprise IT environment, demonstrating continued growth in progressively more complex technologies (e.g. system administration; scripting, programming; and networking principles, protocols, and architecture) OR a combination of education and large IT enterprise experience plus 1 year of experience in the IT industry OR equivalent education/experience

  • Some familiarity or ability to troubleshoot audio visual conference equipment.

CONDITITONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Schedule is normally 8a to 5p, M-F but is not always fixed and workload does vary. The incumbent¹s first responsibility is to complete tasks rather than keep to a fixed schedule. Flexibility in schedule and intensity of work is necessary.

  • Position is suitable/eligible for occasional telework

  • Some travel between sites will be necessary by UW Health Services or other shuttles.
