The Kublin Lab in the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division of Fred Hutch seeks an enthusiastic, organized, and driven undergraduate student who is interested in developing vaccinology and immunology research skills. Our work also explores the role of the gut microbiome in altering vaccine responses with specific interest on HIV and malaria vaccines in development. In this position, you will be mentored by a graduate student and learn basic lab skills. While prior experience in microbiology, immunology, or mouse work is desirable, it is not necessary.

The purpose of this non-paid internship is to provide training to students who would like to pursue a career in research. The intern will gain hands-on experience in basic laboratory skills.

This internship is expected to require 9-12 hours per week.

The intern will be trained in a range of skills and techniques. Under the guidance of a graduate student mentor, the intern will learn laboratory fundamentals and some of the following skill sets:

  • General lab assay techniques including sterile technique, handling of blood-borne pathogens, etc.

  • Media preparation

  • Data analysis and quality control

  • General lab maintenance

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program.

  • Completed 1 year of undergraduate level science courses.

  • Good communication skills and an interest in learning

  • Ability to work in a team.

  • Good numeracy, literacy, and organizational skills.

Some Universities/Colleges will apply credit for the work – please check with your individual institutions for their requirements. This position is available for credit only.
