The Team

Interns work on visible projects that impact our guests and business. Beyond hands-on experience, interns also get the opportunity to network with employees and company leaders. What’s more, our interns can fly standby travel on Alaska Airlines during their internship. That means many weekends are filled with jet setting across the country.

Key Duties

  • Focuses on financial analyses and reports that support small business groups within Alaska Airlines.

  • Provides input into forecasting, cost control, budget preparation, variance research, business case preparation and other ad hoc projects and analysis.

  • Solves metrics reporting, key performance indicator modeling, product line profitability and what-if scenarios.

  • Under the direction of the manager, works to innovate, problem solve, support projects, provide insights, drive change and influence the organization.

  • Uses solid understanding of business to help develop and maintain models to support company activities (e.g., labor reports, line of business costs and productivity, cost and revenue forecasts, etc.)

  • Assists in synthesizing and analyzing the financial performance data to draw business conclusions, and proposes action plans to improve profitability, capital allocation and cash generation as well as corrective action plans as/if needed.

  • Contributes to monthly closing process, including accruals, PO system management, invoice review and research, and data entry into relevant support databases/models.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • Working towards a Bachelor’s degree with a focus in finance, accounting, economics or related field.

  • Familiarity with accounting/finance fundamentals as well as intermediate math skills.

  • Ability to exercise good judgement, attention to detail, and analytical acumen for problem solving in daily activities and analysis.

  • A self-starter with the ability to set and balance priorities, work independently and take ownership.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and databases in general, including experience with a variety of Excel's math functions and pivot tables.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and an ability to explain complex concepts to division leadership.

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program and have at least one semester or quarter of school remaining after the internship.

  • Must have achieved a junior or higher academic standing at the time of application.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Starting Rate

USD $25.00/Hr.

Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air pay and benefits can vary by company, location, number of regularly scheduled hours worked, length of employment, and employment status.
