ZGF Architects Intern 5 (Architectural Intern) in Seattle, Washington



Position: Intern 5 (Architectural Intern)

Location: Seattle, WA


  • Determine procedures for all phases of design and document production

  • Independently prepare and/or supervise preparation of architectural plans and renderings

  • Consult with manufacturers, and evaluate and select materials

  • Develop design and technical design solutions for specific areas of projects and ensure design integrity through the Design Development, Construction Documents, and Construction Phases

  • Supervise less experienced staff members to effectively utilize their efforts on projects

  • Present solutions in-house and coordinate design intent and documentation with consultants

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the appropriate use of building systems, materials, and technologies, and research alternative systems and materials

  • Develop project specifications

  • Review completed reports, plans, estimates, and calculations

  • Demonstrate and utilize knowledge of building, planning, and zoning codes as they relate to the project and its design

  • Integrate building performance goals into design solutions and document performance metrics

  • Assist with general office-wide initiatives and Marketing Department efforts

Education: Five-year Bachelor of Architecture degree (foreign equivalent accepted).


Experience: Eight years' progressive post bachelor?s experience as an Architectural Intern, Architectural Designer, Architect, Associate Architect, or similar position.


  • 8 years' experience with Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Suite.

  • 8 years' experience preparing architectural plans (construction documents, elevations, sections, details) and renderings.

  • 4 years' experience supervising preparation and coordination of architectural plans (construction documents, elevations, sections, details) and renderings.

  • Professional experience (any) with healthcare, mixed use, research / laboratory, educational and commercial projects

  • Professional experience (any) with at least one high rise project, or a project over 100,000 SF.

  • Professional experience (any) with energy-efficient design.

  • Submission of resume/ portfolio containing all of the following: A) samples of at least two (2) sets of two photo realistic renderings of healthcare, mixed use, research / laboratory, educational or commercial projects suitable for use by an architectural firm (at least 4 renderings total), and B) Sample Construction Documents (plans, elevations, details and section drawings) for at least four (4) different professional projects.

All experience, skills and requirements may be gained concurrently.
