The Alliance for Professional Development, Training, and Caregiver Excellence (The Alliance) is a partnership between the UW School of Social Work; Washington State Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF); Eastern Washington University School of Social Work; UW Tacoma School of Social Work and Criminal Justice; and Partners for Our Children.

The Alliance’s work spans throughout Washington State and has team members throughout the state. Because of this, many of our roles are hybrid and require both remote and in-person work. As a part of the Alliance team, this position will be expected to attend quarterly, in-person, All-Alliance meetings, which take place throughout the year at our three regional training hubs (Delridge, Spokane, Tumwater) as well as at the School of Social Work at the UW Seattle Campus.

The Alliance has an outstanding opportunity for a full time Instructional Design Excellence Lead. This position is an integral part of the professional development education and training system for public child welfare employees, foster and relative caregivers and their community partners.

The Instructional Design Excellence Lead will provide support and guidance in asynchronous learning activities for web based delivery, learner interface and design of eLearnings. This will involve substantial work in coaching team members on best and emerging practices in instructional design, serving on the Quality Assurance team, review of eLearning materials developed by instructional designers prior to launch and identifying potential professional development needs for the instructional designers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Instructional Design (30%)

  • Work in partnership with state, tribal, caregiving, and community professionals to review and revise existing learning materials and develop new and innovative curriculum and supporting materials

  • Apply effective adult learning methodologies and techniques in developing online learning products

  • Work directly with other Alliance staff, contractors and community partners in the creation of effective online learning products

  • Provide support to curriculum developers during development regarding activities, scenarios, etc. and balancing the activity to presentation ratio.

  • Provide support to instructional designers during development regarding interactions and activities, technical implementation of content, and balancing the activity to presentation ratio.

  • Participate in ongoing online learning product reviews, and evaluations to ensure that materials and content are accurate, effective, accessible, and meet the training needs of the audience and external partners

  • Review and remediate bug reports for online learning products

  • Support the CQI team in utilizing data collected during review periods to determine whether to sunset, revise, or continue use of a course.Instructional Design Quality Reviews and Evaluation (30%)

  • Review online learning products during development to ensure activities, scenarios, flow, and pacing are representative of best practice and follow the statewide guidelines and values of the Alliance.

  • Approve final learning products by reporting they meet the Alliance’s minimum standards set forth in the statewide guide, principles, and values statements.

  • Conduct random and structured products reviews to inform professional development needs and further the growth of instructional designers.

  • Demonstrate expert instructional design skills for varied and diverse learners, including workforce, caregivers, lay advocates and others to ensure that learning products align with the Alliance curriculum principles and guidelines

  • Create professional development opportunities for instructional designers based on product reviews and other collected data.

  • Develop, revise, maintain, and implement instructional designer onboarding training.

  • Prepare and adapt materials from accepted professional and educational sources for staff use in on-the-job training

  • Study and review state of the art informational materials concerning best practices, new training methods and techniques

  • Participate and collect evaluation and outcome dataCollaboration and building relationships (20%)

  • Participate in the organization and implementation of All Staff Meetings as pertaining to professional development opportunities and project implementation needs

  • Network with local community agencies to promote and leverage resources in carrying out the Alliance mission and values

  • Work as a statewide team within the UW SSW Alliance in fulfilling and maximizing its mission, vision, and guiding principles, and specifically in online learning product design for child welfare and partner agencies

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, colleagues and partners

  • Participate in statewide workgroups related to all levels of trainings or other related topicsSubject matter expertise (15%)

  • Maintain knowledge and expertise of innovations in adult learning and instructional design

  • Work diligently to evolve the knowledge and skill development of Alliance instructional designers

  • Serve as a mentor to new Alliance instructional designers

  • Participate in onboarding and ongoing development of Alliance staff, including Development and Facilitation Specialists

  • Lead the statewide coordination of subject matter expertise in the area of instructional design, effective discussions and fostering the participation of learners

  • Collaborate with CQA team to ensure application of most updated instructional design standards and expectationOther duties as assigned (5%) MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Learning Technology, Curriculum Development, or a related field or concentration. An equivalent number of years in experience can substitute for the degree requirement.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with designing and producing courses for professional development using multi-modality and online platforms. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficiency in Articulate Storyline and the rest of the Articulate 360 suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Premiere, Audacity, VideoScribe and other content authoring tools.

  • Working knowledge of web accessibility standards and how to implement them into eLearning and other online content.

  • Demonstration of strong visual design skills

  • Working knowledge of Learning Management Systems for eLearning course delivery

  • Advanced skills and experience planning, designing, producing and delivering education and training in a wide variety of online formats

  • Strong customer service skills

  • Excellent verbal, written, and facilitation communication skills and patience

  • Critical thinker with demonstrated creative problem-solving skills

  • Can work independently and as a team member

  • Ability to track tasks to completion and ensure that they are carried out properly

  • Ability to work well among diverse population

  • Experience initiating and managing projects, as well as coordinating and managing project teams DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Education, Learning Technology or Computer Science, Curriculum Development or a related field or concentration.

  • Experience with the Articulate suite of projects is strongly preferred.

  • Exposure in working with incorporating SCORM modules into multiple learning management systems is preferred.

  • Advanced skills in Articulate Storyline strongly desired
