We’re looking to add an Industrial Design Lead to our team. In this role, you will collaborate with internal and external teams to design high quality, cost effective solutions for Amazon Robotics. You will own multiple projects simultaneously, from concept realization through design approval. You will be a primary point of contact for your projects and directly interface with our robotics hardware engineering teams.
You will work with a team of highly skilled and highly engaged Industrial and UI Designers, Ergonomists, Researchers, and Human Factors Experts to deliver great wholistic User Experiences across a wide-variety of robotics systems.
Key job responsibilities
Utilize human-centric thinking and impactful aesthetic sensibility to align with customer needs and preferences
Ability to apply critical thinking to the product development process
Thrive and be passionate about innovating new to the world products under ambiguity
Demonstrate great design advocacy communication and collaboration skills with cross functional teams
Excellent organization skills and ability to define, track, and guide multiple design programs
Design for manufacturing considering cost, scale, brand, and usability
Become a subject matter expert on the intersection of robotics, user experience and industrial design
Work with external vendors and/or manufacturers and ensure quality and design intent are maintained
Produce concept sketches, 3D Renderings, and prototypes ranging from quick low fidelity models to high fidelity cosmetic or functional prototypes
Execute and deliver CAD surfacing/parametric models
Support the creation of Design Guidelines and other mechanisms for infusing human-centered design at scale
Research new materials and manufacturing methods applicable to our range of products

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s/master’s degree in Industrial Design
5+ years of professional industrial design experience in the Medical, Industrial or Robotics industries
5+ years working with one or more ID surfacing and parametric CAD tools, preferably a combination of Rhino, SolidWorks, Keyshot
An exceptional portfolio that demonstrates delivering successful products from concept to production
Experience working with mechanical, electrical engineers, as well as production vendors and manufacturers
Preferred Qualifications
3+ years working in a highly technical hardware domain
Experience as an in-house Industrial Designer, as well as experience at Design Consultancies
Relevant experience designing products involving human factors, ergonomics, or tools for professionals
Experience designing products for robotics, mechatronics, or tools for serviceability, repair and maintenance.
Experience designing for low, medium and high volume manufacturing processes including, CNC machining, urethane casting, sheet metal forming, and injection molding.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $124,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $193,100/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
