Under direction from the Youth Development Center of Excellence, the Inclusion Specialist is responsible for supporting children, youth, and families in our Youth Development Programs to ensure that each youth has the opportunity to reach their full potential. In addition, this role will provide support to front line staff and the implementation of inclusion strategies and programs that support a comprehensive approach for our staff, youth, and families in the assigned program areas. This position will work closely with staff in the Education and Enrichment Department and Youth Development Programs Branch, to provide coaching and ensure consistent implementation of inclusion services across programs.

Hiring range: $67,724.80-70,434.00 annually

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • The Inclusion Specialist supports the implementation of the Y’s Positive Behavior Guidance System, works with individual students while providing guidance, model expectations, and teach social/emotional skills through on-site observations.

  • Support staff in building inclusive programs and environments through appropriate modifications and accommodations.

  • Support screenings and assessment as appropriate.

  • Evaluate and communicate results through data management tools to track and analyze consultations and trends in programs to identify and monitor improvement strategies.

  • Develop and facilitate trainings that provide staff with basic tools and resources for supporting youth in programs in varying situations for foundational learning.

  • Incorporates the YMCA of Greater Seattle Youth Development Theory of Change and program specific logic models in program design and delivery. Tracks related outcome and output data.

  • Ensure all federal, state (DCYF), grant and local reports related to inclusion support services are completed and submitted.

  • Support the Program Executive, Youth and Family, in providing supportive and intervention level training and consultation resources for the Education and Enrichment and Youth Development Programs

  • Branch teams. Effectively matches consultations and observations needs to training opportunities for staff.

  • And other duties as assigned

    KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • High degree of initiative; must be able to work independently and be a self‐starter as well as a strong team player with a commitment to collaboration within and outside the Education and Enrichment team.

  • Emotional intelligence and the ability to quickly access and compose oneself in stressful or tense situations is a must.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Very strong organization skills are essential as well as highly established analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong ability to facilitate effective trainings that meet learning objectives.

  • One should have strong leadership skills with a personal commitment to integrity, teamwork, achievement of departmental and business objectives.

  • Focused and dedicated to providing the highest quality of inclusion support services to all youth, staff, and families.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and manage highly confidential information.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT This job operates in a professional office environment and at off-site school and community locations. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.

This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 30 pounds.

    POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

    This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

    TRAVEL Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • BA/BS degree in Family and Child Studies, Psychology, Social Work, or other related discipline required. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

  • 3 or more years of progressive youth development leadership experience.

  • 2 or more years of demonstrated success in supporting staff, youth, and families with special needs.

  • Knowledge of developmental milestones for school age youth.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

    PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Credential or certification in social work, human services, family services, counseling, or a related field preferred.

  • Experience working in licensed school age programs.

  • Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc).

  • Ability to speak any language in addition to English.
