Overview

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health in Seattle, Washington is recruiting a physician who is Fellowship Trained and Board Certified in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine to join our team.

Responsibilities

Virginia Mason Center for Hyperbaric Medicine is a 24/7 multiplace hyperbaric chamber. We are the premier Hyperbaric Center in the Northwest, a Level 1 program accredited “with distinction” by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society.

Emergent treatments are provided for patients with decompression illness, iatrogenic gas embolism, and carbon monoxide poisoning. Routine treatments are provided Monday - Saturday for outpatients and inpatients with late radiation tissue injury, non-healing diabetic wounds, compromised grafts and flaps, refractory osteomyelitis, idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss, and other conditions. In addition to hyperbaric consultations and treatments, we provide fitness to dive exams for commercial, scientific, public safety, and recreational divers. The ideal candidate will also be a Federal Aviation Administration, Aviation Medical Examiner, and provide pilot examinations.

The Center for Hyperbaric Medicine operates a triple lock multiplace chamber approximately 50 feet long and 10 feet in diameter which is located within a tertiary care hospital. The chamber has critical care capabilities.

Qualifications

  • BE/BC in primary specialty i.e.: Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pulmonary and Critical Care, Anesthesia, or other specialty.

  • BE/BC in Undersea & Hyperbaric Medicine (UHM) as recognized by ABMS

  • Fellowship training in Hyperbaric Medicine

  • Experience teaching hyperbaric medicine (e.g., UHMS Introductory Courses, Dive Medicine Courses, Residents)

  • 5-10 years of hyperbaric medicine experience preferred

  • Current active practice of hyperbaric medicine, including time in a multiplace facility

  • History of active professional society (UHMS) involvement at national level (e.g. annual scientific meeting attendance and participation, committee membership and/or chairmanship, elected office)

  • History of excellent staff and peer relations

  • Possesses working knowledge of hyperbaric billing issues, coding, insurance coverage (including CMS)

  • Successful record in hyperbaric and/or diving medicine research, with publications in the peer-reviewed medical literature preferred

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in Diving Medicine preferred

  • Knowledge and experience in wound care preferred but there is a separate wound clinic at Virginia Mason Medical Center

  • Ability to obtain a medical professional license in the State of WA

  • Ability to obtain a DEA with full prescriptive authority needed for specific practice

$128.67 - $154.46 /hour
