Responsibilities

The following duties are intended to be representative of the work performed by incumbents in this position and is not all-inclusive. The omission of a specific duty or responsibility will not preclude it from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical extension of position responsibilities.

  • Performs histology techniques including processing, embedding, cutting, H&E, IHC and special staining, and special procedures including Immunofluorecense. Training new personnel in the procedures and processes of the lab.

  • Performs clerical duties, including accessing specimens in the computer, ordering tests and worksheets, file blocks, matching slides and pathology reports, and recording work load.

  • Provides general laboratory maintenance such as making re-agents, changing machines, daily cleaning, and filling fixative bottles

  • Performs quality control procedures, proficiency testing, and employ safety standards.

Qualifications

This position requires an understanding of anatomy, chemistry, mathematics, immunology, microtomy staining, excellent hand-eye coordination, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to be organized.

This position requires a minimum of 3 years directly related work experience .

HT(ASCP) eligible or attending an HT track school preferred .

A high school diploma or GED is required for this position.

  • Demonstrated initiative and independent judgment in non-routine matters.

  • Demonstrated advanced level of proficiency with MS Office.

  • Excellent verbal, written (grammar) and time management skills.

  • Will need to have the ability to delegate task and work independently while being self motivating.

  • Experience resolving conflict is also required.

  • Specific experience in department and medical terminology may also be required.
