University of Washington Medical Center - MONTLAKE - RADIOLOGY-SUPPORT has an outstanding opportunity for a HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNICIAN 3 .
WORK SCHEDULE - FULL-TIME; 40 HOURS PER WEEK; 1.0 FTE - DAY SHIFT
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS This position is responsible for providing radiology images, service, & information to hospital staff, patients & outside facilities including law enforcement and attorneys. Maintain confidentiality adhering to UWMC policies and procedures with strict attention to accuracy and detail. Work independently preventing and resolving complex problems in coordinating the availability of images & information. Communicates potential and unresolved problems to supervisor or lead in charge. Maintain statistical data and logs for budget expenditures. Extensive training and knowledge of the various radiology exams and anatomy is necessary as well as good interpersonal skills. Facilitate & communicate corrections of patient related information to appropriate areas. The following functions and tasks do not include all that are possible in this work nor do they limit the assignment of allotted tasks.

All of UW Medicine’s radiologists are board-certified and specialize in a variety of areas such as neuroradiology, body radiology, interventional radiology, musculoskeletal radiology, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, mammography and chest radiology. Imaging findings are integrated with all clinical data to generate comprehensive and actionable patient assessments.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Receive, register, and create folder for images received from outside sources into RIS/Imagecast for tracking purposes.
Digitize any selected outside films for long term availability on PACS.
Provide UWMC images/films to outside sources assuring that a legal signed release is completed and documentation of where images are loaned.
Scan completed releases into retained dept. records. In legal cases interface with law enforcement & attorneys and assure proper procedures are followed.
Provide images, schedule, and bill for copies or burn images onto CD’s at no cost to patient.
Utilize and expedite delivery of images to requested sources via Fed-ex, Shuttle, US Mail, or hand delivery by patient or courier.
Serve as a primary contact person to provide accurate information regarding policies and procedures for Radiology Records and related computer system such as PACS/RIS.
Investigate incomplete/in-accurate cases ordered for proper action such as release paper works.
Import outside CD, images using TeleRAD, lifeIMAGE, BEAM and eMix.
Transfer/Import images including scheduling in RIS and merging in PACS.
Answer phone calls. Handle technical and medical information in a variety of formats electronic/paper including basic trouble shooting of RIS/PACS and related computer system issues.
Act as Acting Lead when the Lead is on leaves.
Coordinate research requests from outside agencies and internal departments to access patient records.
Prepare and send requested patient images following appropriate and complete format.
Assist in orienting and training new Physicians/Nurses/new staff regarding Radiology workflow.
Perform basic trouble shooting of RIS, PACS and other related Radiology computer system.
Interact with Law enforcement Officials and attorneys regarding release of information.
Respond to patient questions following a variety of Radiology work procedures and methods including transfer of images via PACS and PACSCUBE.
Understand and adheres to the National Patient Safety goals and described yearly by the Joint Commission.
Perform other related job duties as requested.
REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Completion of a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) program AND eligible for registration as an RHIT AND one year of experience in health information management OR equivalent education/experience.
