Our mission is to invent and simplify large-scale solutions and bring the future to Amazon customers.Under indirect supervision, the HIM Specialist is responsible for processing all Release of Information (ROI) requests in a timely and efficient manner ensuring accuracy and providing customers with the highest quality product and customer service. The HIM Specialist must at all times safeguard and protect the customer's right to privacy by ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to the patient's medical information and that all releases of information are in compliance with the request, authorization, company policy, State and Federal laws, and HIPAA regulations. The HIM Specialist is highly skilled in providing an excellent customer experience and answering questions, can articulate themselves in written and verbal outreach, and is able to respond to changing circumstances and needs.The ideal Amazonian will demonstrate the ability to work independently with the utmost of professionalism, integrity, and dependability. An Amazonian has a bias for action and is strongly self-motivated not only to take great care of our customers, but also to proactively identify systemic issues that need to be resolved to prevent future customer concerns (Amazonians don't pass the buck when it comes to customer issues). Finally, an Amazonian is supremely internet savvy and has high technical aptitude when it comes to online tools and research and has a passion for continuous learning.Key job responsibilitiesNOTE: Specific positions may emphasize one or more of the following listed duties.* Respond/triage requests from customers, outside agencies, clinics, insurance companies, attorneys, physicians and staff regarding release of health record information.* Release pertinent health care information through various methods in accordance with Regional Release of Information guidelines and Federal and State Laws.* Assure proper authorization for disclosure to validate that authorization meets all necessary laws pertinent to the request.* Utilize computer system applications and equipment to receive and dispatch information for both emergent and non-emergent situations.* Analyze and prioritize incoming requests for release of information and code by type, i.e. coordination of care, disability forms, patient reviews, immunizations, attorneys and insurance companies.* Prioritize incoming requests in order to meet turnaround time requirements of the release request.* Create and update disclosure database with pertinent information for tracking purposes.* Abstract, collect, and document requested PHI as required for normal course of business.* Assist customers in all facets of release of information requests and disclosure.* Coordinate with appropriate clinical staff regarding requested information for review.* Coordinate, and complete amendment requests as per HIPAA guidelines.* Coordinate/track physician completion of forms and requests for narratives from requestors.* Assist with coordination of information for outside referrals by identifying appropriate information* Coordinate the HIPAA mandated Disclosure Accounting process to include education and follow-up to Amazon Care staff.* Perform other duties as assignedAbout the teamInclusive Team CultureHere at Amazon, we embrace our differences.
