Amazon Go is a new kind of store with no lines and no checkout—you just grab and go! Customers can simply use the Amazon Go app, a credit card (or their palm!) to enter the store, take what they want from our selection of fresh, delicious foods, snacks, drinks traditional convenience items or grocery essentials, and go! Designed and custom-built by Amazonians, our Just Walk Out Technology uses a variety of technologies including computer vision, sensor fusion, and advanced machine learning. The successful candidate will be a strong business athlete with specialized skills in People Leadership, Category Management, Vendor Negotiations, and Market & Consumer Insights. He or she must be able to work independently, be comfortable with ambiguity, communicate with and be able to influence employees, peers, and leaders at all levels of the organization. He/she will be a strong project manager with deep analytical abilities and will over-index in several leadership competencies, particularly in the ability to hire and develop the best, think big, innovate, invent and simplify, take ownership, have a bias for action and deliver results.

This Category Leader must have a demonstrated ability to move fluidly in a rapidly changing environment, as well as possess best-in-class written and verbal communication skills. They will work closely with internal and external partners to conceive and propose customer-facing strategies and concepts, and guide those projects to completion to hit customer, revenue, and income goals across Amazon Go. This will include creating complex experimental frameworks, analyzing results, and structuring scalable solutions and product offers across a variety of customer-facing omni channels and touch points in our physical stores. This role is inherently cross-functional, working closely with external partners and internal Merchandising, Marketing, Supply Chain, Store Design, and Technology teams just to name a few.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a passion for independent, creative problem-solving, show strong ownership, unwavering commitment, and have proven leadership experience in managing projects and teams.

The successful leader must:

• Possess a thorough understanding of the omni and physical store convenience and grocery market retail industry segments, regional and global business trends, and various customer segment needs.

• Proven experience in Category Management leadership roles including category strategies & tactics, assortment strategies & portfolio optimization, pricing and promotion strategies & tactics, seasonal program planning & management, vendor negotiations & strategic partnerships

• Effective team leadership and people development (team size of 12+). Effective at hiring and developing leaders on the team; building a team culture that demands accountability for quality outputs and attracts top talent

• Have a passion and focus on the customer, both existing and potential, and use that knowledge to help deliver programs and products that provide Amazon customers with an unparalleled shopping experience

• Have strong written and verbal skills, ability to clearly define & communicate the current and future needs of the business

• Bring innovative ideas to the table every day, in order to find better and more effective ways of accomplishing our customer focused objectives; able to simplify and improve methods and processes.

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of team management experience

  • 8+ years of operational and/or retail management experience

  • 10+ years of category leadership experience in retail

  • Experience in cross-functional leadership and managing direct teams

  • Experience using data and metrics to drive improvements

  • Experience using data and defining key metrics to deliver effective reports

  • Experience with Excel or Tableau (data manipulation, macros, charts and pivot tables)

  • Experience driving direction and alignment with cross-functional teams, peers and senior leadership

  • Experience with basic Microsoft Office programs and systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading and transforming highly effective organizations

  • Experience with P&L responsibility and delivering strong financial results

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $142,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $236,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
