Port of Seattle Graduate Intern - Economic Development in Seattle, Washington

Some of what you'll be doing:

This is a full-time summer graduate intern position. The Port’s Economic Development Division is responsible for spurring our regional economy, sustaining and creating family-wage jobs by supporting small businesses, workforce development, tourism, and leveraging real estate development to support jobs.

The person in this role will support the Economic Development Manager and the Managing Director of Economic Development in providing research, administrative duties including reviewing grants, and collaboration on special regional economic development projects assigned by the Economic Development team.

  • Assist with research, data analysis, identifying trends to support economic development plans and activities

  • Assist with planning projects related to economic development initiatives

  • Assist in reviewing grant applications and providing analysis for past grant cycles

  • Develop content for the Port of Seattle’s economic development pages and regional economic development partner’s pages

  • Participate in meetings and community events with area businesses, local government entities, and community organizations to understand their needs and identify opportunities for collaboration

  • Support the organization and coordination of workshops, events, and meetings related to economic development

  • Perform administrative duties including filing, reporting, meeting agenda development, meeting minutes, and other related tasks

  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned by the Economic Development team

Who you are:

  • A Student – You must be currently enrolled in a master's degree program or a recent graduate (< 1 year ago) in a graduate degree program such as relevant education in Urban and Regional Development, Public Policy, Economics, Public Administration, or related field preferred.

What else you need to know:

  • Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.

  • Work Environment – This work will take place in a hybrid remote/in-office setting at Management’s discretion.

  • Limited Duration – This is a limited duration position and is expected to last no longer than five months.

  • Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.

  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington State within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
