POSITION DESCRIPTION

THE SALVATION SEATTLE SOCIAL SERVICES

DEPARTMENT: EMERGENCY FINANCIAL SERVICES / FOOD BANK

POSITION TITLE: COMMUNITY SERVICE SPECIALIST (CSS)

STATUS: FT, non-exempt

GENERAL STATEMENT:

The Salvation Army is a branch of the Christian Church and the ultimate goal of all programs is spiritual regeneration of all people.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

• HS Diploma or GED

• Minimum of 1 years of experience in public contact / Customer Service

• WA. Drivers License required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• Detail oriented – attention to detail required

• Self starter

• Team player

• Strong use of the English language in verbal and written communication

• (Spelling - 90% Grammar – 85%)

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Effective communication and telephone skills

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain poise under pressure

• Customer service mindset

• Ability and willingness to keep information confidential

SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS:

• Microsoft Word and Excel required

• Lotus Notes, helpful

• Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training.

SCOPE OF POSITION:

Under limited direct supervision, the Community Service Specialist is responsible for meeting community needs through food bank services, provision of information and referral to appropriate community partners, direct assistance through Salvation Army programs,

counseling and limited case management commensurate with training and compassionate community presence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• An ability to engage with diverse populations in a respectful and culturally responsive manner

• Demonstrates a commitment to the values of equity and inclusion by honoring diverse characteristics and expressions of personal identity.

• Answer and respond to all incoming phone calls

• Complete all departmental filing

• Maintain Department Logs

• Create physical files as needed

• Maintain and update contact information

• Generate reports as needed

• Maintain supply inventory and coordinate order of replacement supplies with PM as necessary

• Maintain warehouse and food storage

• Driving support for procurement of food bank donations

• Provide emergency resource information as needed

• Screen clients for emergency referral as appropriate

• Responsible for preparation and distribution of food and commodities

• Prepare general correspondence as requested, including form letters

• Provide administrative support to department head

• Assist with volunteer coordination, training, and retention.

• Participate in weekly staff meetings

• Operate a pallet jack within safety and compliance protocols

• Perform all other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis

• Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead

• Ability to operate telephone

• Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer

• Ability to lift up to 45 lbs

• Ability to access and produce information from a computer

• Ability to understand written information
