This position supports UW Medicine’s goals for meeting reporting requirements with a number of external agencies and providing financial information used for policy decisions. Your work strives to improve the processes, structure and deliverables related to reporting and analysis. You will be an integral member of the UW Medicine Finance team. With a focus on providing accurate information to improve financial performance, you will also interact with management, Finance and Accounting colleagues. The Financial Analyst is directly responsible and accountable for the following areas:

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Reporting and Analysis • Prepares and files financial reports/surveys with the Department of Health and other entities for UW Medicine hospitals. Reporting includes, but not limited to: Washington State Department of Health, Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems, American Hospital Association, US Census Bureau, America's Essential Hospitals, Practice Greenhealth and Washington State Hospital Association • Continuously works to improve the reporting process, streamlining data collection and standardize reporting • Analyzes financial reports to assist management in identifying variances. Works with departments to determine causes of variances, develops and implements plans to remedy as appropriate.

Other • Establish effective, collaborative working relationships throughout the organization with staff, peers, supervisors and customers • Collaborates with management to develop sustainable strategies for improving financial performance. • Educates self through industry readings, conferences and other forums on critical financial and healthcare trends. Analyzes data, identifies potential implications, quantifies impact and provides recommendations for UW Medicine. • Represents UW Medicine Finance on committees or task forces as needed • Supports benchmarking and labor productivity initiatives as needed • Provides other financial analysis as required

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business, accounting or healthcare administration

  • At least five years of experience in healthcare finance/operations.

  • Progressively more finance experience preferred, specifically in financial planning and analysis.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements. Required Competencies – Job Specific • Excellent interpersonal skills, effectively interacting and collaborating across multiple teams with all staff levels• Proven analytical, verbal and written communications skills, including effectively communicating with all levels of management/leadership• Ability to extract and reconcile data from multiple systems and ensure data integrity• Preparing complex financial/productivity analyses and interpretations with high degree of accuracy• Diligently tracking performance metrics and formulate actionable recommendations to leaders• Utilizing numerous business software applications – relational databases, data visualization tools and report writers• Working independently with a minimum level of supervision and managing multiple projects simultaneously• Adaptability to evolving demands and expectations
