The Financial Aid and Admissions Coordinator for the UW School of Law plays a crucial role in assisting law students with the financial aspects of their education and supporting admission. This position acts as the primary contact in guiding students through the scholarship application process, evaluating eligibility, assigning scholarships, and providing information on available financial aid programs. The counselor collaborates with Student Fiscal Services and the Office of Student Financial Aid to ensure compliance with regulations and policies and works to create a supportive and inclusive environment for students seeking financial assistance. In addition, will be the expert in the UW Student Database system for financial aid and admissions. This person may also perform admissions functions as part of the financial aid and admissions office.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Financial Aid Advising and Outreach: 50%

  • Provide personalized financial aid and admissions counseling to law students.

  • Assist students in understanding financial aid and admissions application process, requirements, and deadlines.

  • Advise applicants and students on available scholarships and support them with questions they may have regarding financial aid.

  • Collect and review scholarship applications.

  • Determine eligibility for various scholarships with support of the Assistant Dean and the UW Law Business Office.

  • Stay updated on changes in financial aid regulations to better counsel students and make appropriate referrals to the Office of Student Financial Aid.

  • Evaluate and enhance financial aid processes for efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Seek feedback from students to identify areas for improvement in financial aid services.

  • Provide initial scholarship and general financial aid counseling and refer students to the appropriate resources within the UW such as the Office of Student Financial Aid. Scholarship and Award Management: 20%

  • Communicate scholarship awards to students, detailing amounts, terms, and conditions.

  • Coordinate with the Student Financial Services, Office of Student Financial Aid and Office of the University Registrar to ensure accurate disbursement of funds.

  • Monitor and manage scholarship programs specific to the School of Law. Data Support, Compliance and Data Reporting: 10%

  • Stay informed about federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations.

  • Ensure compliance with all financial aid/scholarship policies and procedures.

  • Prepare regular reports and assessments on the effectiveness of financial aid outreach initiatives and use data to make data-driven improvements to the outreach strategy.

  • Manage scholarship awards using the UW Law Unite database

  • Work with LSAC and others to maintain data in UW Law Unite system for financial aid and admissions Outreach and Education financial aid and admissions: 10%

  • Conduct workshops and information sessions on financial aid topics for law students and prospective law students.

  • Collaborate within the admissions team and with the marketing team to develop materials promoting financial aid opportunities.

  • Participate in orientation programs to introduce incoming students to financial aid resources. Customer Service: 5%

  • Respond to inquiries from students and other scholarship stakeholders regarding admissions and financial aid matters.

  • Resolve issues related to scholarships and admissions in a timely and effective manner.

  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality in handling sensitive information. Collaboration: 5%

  • Work closely with other departments academic affairs, student services, and career services to provide comprehensive support to law students.

  • Collaborate with relevant external organizations to identify additional financial aid resources for law students. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field such as education, counseling, business, or public administration is required and 2-3 years of relevant experience.Bachelor’s degree in education, communication, business, public health, or related field plus four years of work experience, or equivalent combination of education/experience. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations.

  • Experience in financial aid administration, preferably in a higher education setting.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information.

  • Proficiency in financial aid management software and Microsoft Office applications. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
