The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for a Financial Access Specialist Supervisor .
WORK SCHEDULE
100% FTE (40 hours per week)
First Shift
Work from home Monday through Friday, flexible between 6:30am - 4pm. DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION A regional resource for clinical laboratory services required for innovative patient care, research and educational programs, the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology combines the sophisticated testing and informatics capabilities of fully accredited laboratories with the resources of an academic institution in its delivery of clinical and anatomic pathology services. Supervise assigned staff ensuring compliance with regulatory agency and third-party payer requirements and hospital policies and procedures.
The scope of work for this team includes the entire revenue cycle for Reference Lab billing which includes: preauthorization, registration/order entry, pre-bill error resolution, client billing & follow-up, third party payer billing & denial follow-up, patient billing & follow-up, SBAR creation, credit balance/refund processing, and any special projects or other work associated with reference lab billing.
Review, monitor and assign workload.
Review work in process, completed pre-authorizations, and required documentation for compliance with department, laboratory, regulatory agency and third-party payer policies.
Estimate lab charges, calculate anticipated total charges and patient financial responsibility; communicate to patients the potential financial responsibility, receive credit card payments, and facilitate collection of amount owed.
Coordinate with multiple internal and external departments to authorize specialized genetic testing services.
Evaluate, develop, and implement policies and procedures. Recommend appropriate changes to laboratory policies and procedures.
Represent the unit to regulatory agency or third-party payer staff; attend Washington State Medicaid and/or Medicare meetings or other meetings hosted by third party payers; Attend PLUGS meetings monthly.
Review and interpret new insurance and regulatory agency requirements; identify topics for and develop training sessions.
Advise laboratory staff regarding policies and eligibility criteria of medical assistance programs.
Attend continuing education workshops and other training activities.
Participate in and/or lead special project work; Complete LEAN projects annually.
Prepare administrative reports.
May perform the work of Financial Access Specialists, Financial Access Specialist Lead. REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in related field AND four years of experience as a Financial Access SpecialistOR
High School graduation or equivalent and four years experience as a Financial Access Specialist and a UW Supervisory Skill CertificateOR
