The Department of Neurological Surgery has an outstanding opportunity for a Finance Manager to join their team. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Budget Management

  • Research, prepare, and present detailed financial reports to Department leadership, School of Medicine and UW Medicine Offices; independently execute sophisticated financial reports, collect, analyze, and synthesize data; make recommendations based on specific quantitative performance metrics like budget variance and ROI to ensure financial stability.

  • Collaborate with the Associate Director for Research and Finance to develop comprehensive annual budgets for the departments integrating state, research, clinical, and operational aspects.

  • Develop, assign, and monitor annual budgets for residency programs and other department initiatives, focusing on sustainability and strategic growth.

  • Manage faculty allowance, startup funding for both adult and pediatric programs.

  • Manage the contractual services for the professional sports team (NHL Kraken and NFL Seahawks, Olympics), SCH and the VA contracts for clinical faculty and services.

  • Oversee departmental compliance with University, state, and federal policies; lead all responses to audit requests, emphasizing risk management and compliance.Financial Analysis

  • Conducts financial analysis to identify opportunities for the cost improvements that support multi­ departmental financial non-clinical and research service business objectives.

  • Develop and manage analytic timelines and products, develop work in progress/priority project lists, and provide regular status reports.

  • Utilize advanced financial modeling for reports and statements, and perform comparative analyses for centralized tracking of department budgets.

  • Provide independent advising, training, and reporting services to Vice-Chairs, enhancing department-wide financial acumen.

  • Provide independent advising, training, reconciliation, budgeting, analysis and reporting services to the Vice-Chairs with for all department budgets.Strategic Planning and Process Improvement

  • Independently consults with department leaders to redesign work processes to enhance performance and standardization; create multiple financial scenario options for strategic planning and analysis.

  • Facilitate efficient and creative workflow improvements to develop and implement process improvements that align with the overall financial and business missions of the departments and the UW FIT initiatives.

  • Recognize, develop, and implement systems and processes that will ensure efficient and accurate delivery of accurate services.

  • Lead the departments through the UWFT change management initiatives, identifying workflow barriers and proposing innovative solutions; liaison with school and campus partners.

  • Manage finances against performance metrics, reporting on qualitive data for evaluations progress and improvement initiatives.

  • Ensure the overall structure and financial workflows of the departments remain efficient, and compliant with UW, State and Federal policies; ensures all standard operating procedures are documented and updated timely.Staff Management and Leadership

  • Directly manage and supervise the day to day work of 1.0 FTE classified staff and hourly staff for the fiscal/research business unit.

  • Is responsible for merit eligibility, performance reviews, performance management, and corrective action.

  • Develop job descriptions, oversee recruitment, orientation and training, workflow management, schedules, and ensure compliance across all UW and federal HR policies and procedures.

  • Provide training to new faculty, staff and trainees as it relates to services related to finance and compliance.

  • Lead, build, and maintain strong working relationships with department faculty, staff, residents, central UW financial offices and outside vendors and institutions.

  • Represent the Departments with the centralized UWFT initiatives and staff; ensure transactions on behalf of the department are executed proactivity; makes recommendations for the improvement of workflows and business relationships.Other Duties as Assigned 5% MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or other related field.

  • Four years in Finance or Business. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
