The primary focus of the role is to support Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) as the Specialist of EHS for the Seattle Site(s) within the Department of Environmental, Occupational Health, Safety and Sustainability (EOHSS).
The individual in this role will be responsible for managing the site Chemical Hygiene programs in accordance with company and regulatory requirements. This position plays a key role in aligning corporate and local policies and procedures and will foster a proactive and integrated EHS culture that promotes a positive, proactive approach throughout all operations.
Major Responsibilities and Accountabilities :
Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, safety, medical surveillance and sustainability laws, regulations, codes, rules, and consensus guides.
Serves as the site Chemical Hygiene Officer. Develops, manages, and implements a variety of research and chemical safety programs to ensure compliance with all chemical hygiene requirements.
Develop, implement and manage chemical and hazardous waste handling, transport, characterization, inventory, and disposal programs.
Manage the hazardous communication program include Safety Data Sheets (SDS) management system, labeling, and employee training.
Provide technical and regulatory support for chemical handling, biosafety, hazardous and biohazardous waste, industrial hygiene, and laser safety.
Lead and manage the site chemical inventory management system.
Build strong relationships with, and primary contact for, internal customers including researchers, maintenance, management, and other cross functional groups.
Participates in EHS operational and tier discussions, EHS committees and teams; EHS self-assessments, inspections, GEMBAs, and audits.
Review and ensure accurate and complete resolution of issues as they arise and escalates concerns, resource constraints, or needs with urgency to appropriate leaders in the organization.
Minimum of a B.S. degree in chemistry, biological sciences, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or related field.
Minimum of two (2) plus years of directly related EHS experience, preferably in a Biopharmaceutical or medical device manufacturing or laboratory environment.
Direct support of laboratories handling hazardous chemicals is preferred.
Previous experience related to EHS federal and Washington state regulations (EPA, WA DEC, OSHA, WA L&I, etc.) preferred.
Ability to take initiative and adapt to frequently changing priorities simultaneously and think creatively, critically, and strategically to solve problems in a complex environment.
Experience handling confidential information and sensitive issues in a diplomatic manner to ensure integrity and confidentiality.
Strong interpersonal skills with a proclivity for partnership and collaboration with peers, all levels of management, cross-functional teams at site and EOHSS above site teams.
The starting compensation for this job in Washington (WA) is a range from $60,000 - $76,000, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility). The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
