Summary:

Enterprise Engineering is looking for Systems Engineers to help implement, and build and manage automation and monitoring solutions in a distributed, heterogeneous environment. We use a combination of open source and off-the-shelf technologies, plus many of the tools developed to run Facebook.com.

Required Skills:

  1. Assist in developing and maintaining our monitoring infrastructure.

  2. Work with systems owners to design monitoring configurations that provide full visibility into health of production systems.

  3. Guide application owners on how best to instrument their systems for monitoring availability, performance and capacity planning.

  4. Contribute to continual improvement of monitoring systems and infrastructure consisting of third-party and in-house tools to provide collection, storage and visualization of availability and performance metrics.

  5. Develop tooling and integrations that provide insights around capacity, utilization and availability of a wide variety of infrastructure and software.

  6. Combine open-source and commercial technologies to build services that will have an impact on the business.

  7. Find ways to leverage the scale and complexity of the larger facebook.com infrastructure to solve problems for IT’s customers.

  8. Produce systems that are scalable, automated, and well-documented.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline or equivalent experience.

  2. Experience juggling multiple projects.

  3. 6+ years of experience with Linux/Windows systems administration, automation, provisioning and monitoring.

  4. 6+ years experience in coding with at least one of the following languages Python, Ruby, Go, Perl or similar.

  5. 3+ years experience working with monitoring and configuration management tools such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible.

  6. Knowledge of UNIX and TCP/IP network fundamentals, TCP/IP networking concepts and principles including routing/switching, firewalls, VPNs, load-balancing.

  7. Experience with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Splunk, OpenTSDB, Graphite, etc.
