This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Design and develop turbomachinery for rocket engines that meet Blue Origin's program requirements for various spaceflight systems. Conduct detailed structural analyses using FEA and classical methods on turbomachinery components such as impellers, turbines, and housings. Conduct fatigue and fracture calculations to ensure components survive the harsh environments of a rocket engine. Write detailed structural analysis reports to substantiate that structural requirements are met. Collaborate with the team to solve challenging structural problems while ensuring deliverables are met. Minimum Qualifications: B.S. degree in mechanical, or aerospace engineering or other related technical degree. 2+ years of experience in structural analysis utilizing commercial FEA tools. Experience with structural analysis of pressurized or rotating components. Solid understanding of structural fundamentals such as statics, strength, and fatigue. Ability to work effectively in teams. Be self-directed and capable of multi-tasking. Effective at communicating structural analysis results. Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion. Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with ANSYS Mechanical / Workbench. Experience with additional turbomachinery structural analysis topics such as modal analysis, fracture mechanics, or creep. Knowledge of at least one programming/scripting language (Python/MATLAB).
