This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security and human spaceflight. As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will participate in the development and verification of avionics software components on Blue Origin rocket engines. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of re-usable, safety-critical component development and delivery. This hands-on position requires experience in developing, validating, and verifying safety-critical embedded systems. Strong appreciation of the value of processes and compliance to standards is a must. Together, our teams deliver the embedded software that monitors and controls fully autonomous rocket engines. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Hands-on development of real-time embedded software for rocket engine control in human-capable spacecraft. Creation, documentation and implementation of software architectures and designs. Development of software requirements, tests cases, test procedures and code. Development and execution of software tests (e.g., unit-tests, formal verification tests, ad-hoc HIL tests). Development of software tools (e.g., telemetry parsers). Minimum Qualifications: B.S. degree or higher in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, aerospace, or related field. 5+ years of hands-on testing real-time embedded systems. Experience with C or C++ and Python. Experience with microcontroller peripherals (e.g., UART, SPI, I2C), serial communications and networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP). Experience interfacing with sensors and actuators. Strong debugging skills at the software/hardware boundary. Experience in design, development, and testing of safety-critical software systems in compliance with formal development processes such as DO-178 and a strong focus on process adherence. Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion. Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Preferred Qualifications: M.S. degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, aerospace, or related field. Familiarity with coding standards such as MISRA. Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and/or Processor-in-the-Loop (PIL) testing. Experience using artifact management tools such as DOORs, Jama. Proficiency with Rust. Compensation Range for: WA applicants is $141,480.00-$
