The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are currently seeking an Electrical Estimating Manager to join our team as a member of our growing Electrical Construction division. Additional responsibilities include:

Bid Strategies

  • Work with management to develop successful bid strategies.

  • Recommend value engineering cost saving items where appropriate.

  • Develop relationships with clients, general contractors, vendors and suppliers.

  • Prepare conceptual estimates and budgets as needed

Review and Manage Estimates

  • Plan, organize, and direct the activities of plumbing, piping, and sheet metal estimators, including the preparation of construction cost estimates, budgets, and value engineering proposals.

  • Maintain current and historical construction cost and bid result data bases.

  • Oversee the technical specifications and plans so as to fully understand scope of work anticipated and required elements of estimate/proposal.

  • Oversee the general and special conditions and other front end documents to ensure estimate reflects their effect on the project.

  • Review all bid packages prior to submission to ensure accurate bid.

Team Management

  • Selects, trains, coaches, and manages staff.

  • Provide technical support and assistance to staff.

  • Assign tasks to direct reports and review their work.

  • Lead and/or participate in discussions and meetings with subcontractors, vendors, architects, customers and management.

Project Estimates

  • Ensure accuracy of cost estimates.

  • Oversee project estimates based upon conceptual and/or schematic descriptions of scope for various disciplines, general construction task, and/or major design build projects.

  • Complete estimates for commercial, industrial, and high tech work.

  • Lead project estimating programs and scheduling, as well as establishing procedures and priorities to implement and maintain approved plans.

  • Implement value engineering and constructability practices within given estimates.

Communication

  • Oversee estimating work with sales, engineering, and operations personnel.

  • Work with the Vice President of Sales and Estimating to identify and secure a prospective business consistent with the company’s strategy.

  • Responsible for discussions and meetings with subcontractors, vendors, architects, customers, and other personnel.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

  • Must have demonstrated proficiency for all the responsibilities of a Senior Estimator.

  • BA in mechanical or construction related fields or equivalent work experience required.

  • Ten (10) years of experience estimating and conceptual estimating in the construction industry on projects up to and exceeding $30 million.

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel and Outlook required; working knowledge of Trimble/Quickpen and/or Quotesoft estimating software and database experience required.

  • Solid knowledge of building systems and applications and how to successfully apply that knowledge to solve Client/Project requirements required.

  • Experience in Accubid a plus required.

T he pay range for this position is $93,600- $163,400 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay information is based on market location. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
