Position Overview This is an exciting time for Adaptive Biotechnologies Software Engineering. We are massively scaling up our teams and transforming our existing systems into a world class software architecture. That said, this role is a unique opportunity to be involved from the ground up in helping to shape Adaptive’s future. Our work product is the foundation of what we deliver to customers and as such is well staffed and funded to meet corporate objectives—this is not a G&A role. As Director, Software Engineering directs you will oversee multiple software engineering functions. This role manages both software engineers as well as managers of software engineers. This role also develops long term strategies and approaches for continuous improvement in process, technology, and systems. Open to remote. Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions The Director, Software Engineering will: *Manage goal setting and performance for your teams *Manage sizing, staffing and balancing of team composition *Provide training, mentoring and talent development *Assist removing technical obstacles, help enhance team processes, handle resource issues, and interact with varied members to assure sprint iteration and product release successful delivery. *Work cross functionally with HR, Legal, IT, Finance as required *Provide exemplary leadership to “Fill the void” and “Make it happen” *Manage vendors, budget and delivery as required to meet key company objectives *Develop and monitor KPIs for continuous system and process improvement *Supervise technology trends like emerging standards for fresh technology opportunities. Position Requirements (Education, Experience, Other) *Bachelors + 15 years of related experience or Masters + 12 years of related experience or PhD + 8 years of related experience *Work experience in agile environment and familiar with agile methods like Scrum, Kanban, TDD, BDD, Lean UX, and SAFe. *Ability to lead a significant transformation in the technology platforms and technical talent. *Ability to synthesize robust and cost-effective technical solutions against customer requirements providing buy versus build decision making *Must be detail oriented, self-organized, and capable of simultaneously tracking multiple issues of varying complexity *Ability to cope with high workload in a pressured robust environment, and to adapt quickly to change business priorities and initiatives. *Sound organizational, communication and interpersonal skills with clear, mature ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor under pressure. *Experience managing multiple teams and leading a corporate function *Experience in defining right KPIs, OKRs, and software metrics for continuous performance improvement. Preferred: *Hands on software architecture design experience with Microservices, APIs, Event and Orchestration based integrations, PaaS, native Cloud systems, web application frameworks *Experience in the Life Sciences, medical devices and diagnostics, or healthcare Industry *Knowledge of QMS including SaMD, FDA QSR, ISO 13485, and IEC
