The Office of Institutional Research has an outstanding opportunity for a Director to join their team. POSITION PURPOSE

The Director of the Office of Institutional Research provides leadership and decision support associated with institutional planning and assessment. The Director serves as a resource to the Chancellor’s Executive Team and unit leaders at UW Bothell through the development of performance metrics, research protocols, and assessment plans in support of the university’s strategic priorities. The Director provides leadership and oversight of the office, which is responsible for enrollment projections, providing information for grant development and budget modeling, data management, data and process documentation, data governance, periodic student data reports, campus-wide survey development, and program evaluation/assessment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Leadership and Team Development

  • Mentor and develop a team of 3-5 data analysts and report developers.

  • Meet regularly with campus leadership teams to identify information needs.

  • Develop Business Intelligence and research solutions that answer a variety of questions from multiple stakeholders.

  • Partner with faculty, staff, and students in units across campus to coordinate and systematize the gathering, storing, and analysis of institutional data.

  • Create and oversee campus-wide assessment plan in collaboration with campus leaders.

  • Oversee the establishment and maturation of a data analysis community of practice that fosters data-informed decision making.

  • Liaise with the UW's Seattle and Tacoma campuses, state and federal agencies, statewide research organizations, private corporations, and other higher education organizations.

  • Represent UW Bothell on UW data governance committees and other tri-campus Institutional Research groups.

  • Collaborate with the UW Office of Finance, Planning & Budgeting to ensure accurate and timely compliance reporting.

  • Ensure that institutional data and research support is provided to faculty, staff, and committees, as required by senior leadership.

  • Support the Bothell campus in academic accreditation efforts, both at the program and campus levels.

  • Participate in advisory groups, committees, or working groups as assigned.Data Governance, Analysis, Research and Reporting

  • Oversee quantitative and qualitative research projects and reports that apply to areas of study that include but are not limited to: staffing patterns; accreditation; student learning outcomes; student and staff characteristics; enrollment management; data integrity and quality assurance; and required state and federal reports.

  • Oversee education and outreach efforts in pursuit of the standardization of data definitions, analytical methods, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

  • Interpret and disseminate findings of campus-wide assessments and research projects.

  • Oversee data analyses that support the Office of Sponsored Research and the Academic Affairs division in the development of institutional grant applications.

  • Oversee the creation and development of reports that will guide the implementation of UW Bothell's strategic plan.

  • Directly perform data analyses, develop data models, develop reports, and conduct research projects as needed.Administration

  • Manage the IR office budget.

  • Develop and implement hiring plans as needed.

  • Ensure compliance with state and federal HR policies and regulations.

  • Ensure compliance with state and federal procurement regulations.

  • Manage responses to public information requests when necessary.

  • Manage responses to institutional surveys (e.g., US News Best Colleges, etc.).

  • Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Master's degree in information systems, data science, social science, or related field and five years of experience in data analysis and reporting. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrated experience in quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis and reporting with querying and statistical programming platforms (e.g., SQL, SAS, R, Python).

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to explore, understand, and communicate with data in a meaningful way to a non-technical audience (data literacy).

  • Demonstrated ability to connect people in different organizational areas in ways that enable desired process changes (systems thinking).

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and negotiate achievable solutions with people with diverse perspectives, priorities, and backgrounds (inclusiveness).

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with direct reports and develop their skills, abilities, and knowledge (mentorship).

  • Demonstrated experience organizing, planning, and managing projects that achieve an organizational goal or outcome (project management). DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in institutional research at a higher education institution.

  • Experience leading a data analysis or reporting team.

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of machine learning or econometrics.

  • Intermediate to advanced experience using data visualization and Business Intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).

  • Experience managing relationships with third-party software vendors.
