The Corporate & Foundation Relations team has an exciting opening for a Director for Corporate Relations. This is a full-time, permanent position.

The Director for Corporate Relations is a vital member of Advancement’s central Corporate & Foundation Relations team. The Director develops institution-level strategy for a portfolio of top corporate prospects and positively represents University Advancement within the institution and the UW externally among funders, collaborators and others. The Director works as a trusted partner and ready resource for faculty and staff across the University.

What You Will Do: Fundraising and Relationship Management (60%)

• Manage a portfolio of corporate prospects and funders, including shaping and executing strategies for engagement. Serve as a primary point of contact for companies seeking to build a relationship with the UW. • Identify opportunities for major philanthropic support, including leading the development of proposals with a focus on gifts or support of (or that will lead to) $1 million and greater. • Build broad and multifaceted partnerships that engage companies in both philanthropic and engagement opportunities. • Advise academic and advancement leadership, faculty and staff on the culture and priorities of corporations, including how they typically engage with universities. Accompany academic leaders on visits to companies locally and nationally, as needed. • Mentor fundraising staff in the field of corporate relations. • Convene colleagues in strategy sessions, working transparently and collegially to develop written institutional strategies. • Support unit colleagues and their faculty in proposal strategy and development. Write and review proposals as warranted. Shepherd proposals through the submission and review process. • Build relationships with corporate partners that are aligned with the University’s strategic goals and priorities. Understand companies’ needs and interests and connect them to expertise and resources at the UW. • Conceptualize, organize and host visits to and from companies. • Devise thoughtful stewardship as part of holistic strategy for each company, including working with creative staff on the conceptualization of reports and other collateral.

Innovators’ Pledge Program Leadership (25%)

• Lead the strategic development, launch of a new institutional program with the aim of philanthropically engaging startups and connecting them with relevant expertise across the University. • Analyze, evaluate and provide assessments to leadership regarding the outcomes of this programming initiative to shape its evolution and improvement. • Lead the development of a communications strategy, website and other collateral in collaboration with relevant University stakeholders and partners including CoMotion. • In coordination with UW leadership, build high-level connections between faculty, company founders, investors and high-level donors. • Working with CoMotion, develop a list of UW startup founders and investors and begin outreach to build relationships and rapport. • Engage CoMotion and academic research leaders to build a list of faculty expertise in key research areas in order to efficiently match specialization to queries from startup partners. as well as to support the broader corporate relations program.

Visibility and Pipeline Development (15%)

• Support pipeline development by seeking new and expanded company relationships. • Drive industry awareness of targeted opportunities at the UW with the goal of forging revenue-generating and other beneficial engagements. • Lead the conceptualization, planning and coordination of events that bring together UW faculty members, corporate representatives, investors and campus partners. Emphasis in biotechnology with investigation into expanding into other disciplines. • Support faculty members in recruiting industry partners for major federal grant opportunities. • Develop presentations and marketing collateral for the UW community and corporate partners.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree and at least six years of progressively responsible experience in fund development and corporate or university relations, preferably in higher education.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. What You Bring:

• Proven record of success in building funding and other partnerships. • Knowledge of processes and policies related to contracting, including intellectual property and licensing, as well as gift and other funding pathways, in order to support company interactions across a spectrum of interests and mechanisms. • Demonstrated ability to lead and implement portfolio-level strategies for establishing, cultivating and stewarding sustained and fruitful relationships between companies and the University. • Superb listening and interpretive skills and a high level of political savvy and diplomacy. • Ability to navigate complex organizations and to support others in doing so; equipped with a problem-solving orientation. • Superior writing skills, including proposal-writing experience, and knowledge of corporate prospect research. • Demonstrated creativity, organizational ability and strong attention to detail. • Ability to make decisions in ambiguous situations, exercise good judgment based on information and analysis in a fast-paced, dynamic, deadline drive environment in an organized and professional manner. • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidence and protect confidential information, including modeling the ethical values of the UW in all interactions. • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. • Knowledge of major national science initiatives (i.e. Chips & Science Act, NAIRR, etc.) that inform industry engagement potential with higher education.

What You Can Expect:

• Cubicle/open workspace environment that may result in additional or higher levels of noise and visual distractions. • Some evening and weekend hours are required, as necessary, on short or limited notice. • Frequent local travel and some national travel expected.
