The College of the Environment has an exciting opening for a Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations. This is a full-time, permanent position.
The Director for Corporate and Foundation Relations will lead, develop and implement an effective comprehensive strategy to increase private foundation, corporate grant, and gift support for the College. This role will work proactively with faculty and academic leaders to identify funding opportunities, develop timely fundraising strategies, and engage and deepen involvement with corporate and private foundation donors on behalf of individual units, programs, and cross-cutting initiatives and projects.
The position reports directly to the Associate Dean for Advancement and supervises the Associate Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations.
What You Will Do: Frontline Fundraising (50%)
•Manage a portfolio of 50-75 major corporate and foundation gift prospects using the University’s prospect management and tracking system. Implement cultivation and solicitation strategies for each Top 25 foundation/corporate partner. •Identify and qualify new prospects, present proposals and steward existing relationships. •Lead the preparation of written proposals and required documentation for top corporate and foundation prospects, working with the appropriate faculty and academic personnel. Make proposal presentations to corporations and foundations for significant support ($100K+). •In partnership with the College’s Advancement Services team, establish and implement stewardship plans for foundation gifts and grants, ensuring that all gift/grant guidelines and reporting requirements are met.
Strategy Development and Planning (40%)
•Establish annual and long-range goals, objectives and strategies for the College’s corporate and foundation relations efforts. Provide strategic leadership in designing and implementing advancement programs needed to increase corporate and foundation support. •Develop and maintain a clear understanding of the College’s priorities and strengths and use this information to match foundation and corporate interests with the College’s research and academic areas. •Educate faculty, colleagues and volunteers on corporate and foundation funding opportunities and advise them on solicitation strategies. •Coordinate, plan and brief College and University stakeholders, as appropriate, for visits with prospective and existing corporate and foundation donors. •Initiate the development of policies, procedures and best practices related to the Advancement program, including marketing materials for corporate and foundation relations activities and stewardship events.
Team Management (10%)
•Coach and mentor the Associate Director for Corporate and Foundation Relations in building and managing their portfolio.
Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree AND at least five years of experience in institutional advancement and/or external relations, with an emphasis on securing major gifts from individuals, corporations or private foundations, preferably in a college or university setting.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. What You Bring:
·Experience in securing major gifts and grants, including grant writing experience. Preference for experiencing supporting environmental science and policy initiatives. ·Demonstrated success in identifying and securing corporate and foundation gifts/grants. ·Experience in supervising or mentoring staff. ·Proven ability to establish, cultivate and steward strong relationships with donors, faculty, staff and volunteers to build and maintain trusting partnerships. ·Ability to identify opportunities where donor passions align with the institutional goals in service of increasing private support. ·Strong written and oral communication skills. ·Experience working effectively with academic leadership, faculty and other executive-level positions. ·Knowledge of alumni relations/development/advancement principles.
What You Can Expect:
·Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary, on short or limited notice. ·Frequent local travel expected.
