We are seeking a visionary to lead highly visible, large-scale events. Our events educate customers and prospects at scale, engages with AWS partners, promotes new products and services, drives revenue pipelines, builds and fosters our AWS community, and has press and analyst reach.

The Director of Global Events will conceptualize, plan, lead, and execute events – whether virtual, in-person, or hybrid – for global audiences. In this role, you will grow and establish our large-scale events (60K+ customers & partners). You will lead a team of logistic experts, event production specialists, and partner with our product marketing, technology, service, and sales teams to develop and execute on the vision and strategy for our events. You will own the global budget and revenue streams and create measurement strategies to understand and report on the effectiveness and impact of these events. You will be responsible for the entire customer journey from influencing the creative, messaging, event websites, SWAG, ticket pricing, to the onsite experience – keynotes, content, transportation, mobile app, registration, badges, breakout sessions, signage, and expo as an example.

You are able to simplify and articulate complex concepts to senior business leaders, while working in a fast-paced, highly cross-functional organization. You are experienced with building, developing, and running a high-functioning, diverse team.

Summary of responsibilities:

  • Manage significant efforts within the team, including operational planning, annual planning process, budgets and revenue, overall hiring plan, and the many efforts required to get the project to market and build the business.

  • Design and execute project plans, communicate with key stakeholders, summarize project findings, and formulate action plans.

  • Lead cross-functional teams in different geographies and business units

  • Set the strategy and long-term thinking for the team

  • Willingness to travel 30% or more as needed for the role

Basic Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience building and developing teams responsible for complex, high-profile events

  • Demonstrated track record of inventing new event concepts and taking them from inception to implementation

  • Experience managing organization sizes of 30+ individuals

  • Proven ability to define and track key metrics for event experience across registration, attendance, and event quality

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with a history of writing detailed strategy documents

  • Demonstrated experience maintaining high accuracy and attention to detail in professional environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience business intelligence or reporting tools

  • A creative and analytical mind that thrives in a data-driven environment

  • Strategic thinker who can take broad visions and concepts and develop structured plans, actions and measurable metrics and then execute on those plans

  • Demonstrable history of defining event strategy and executional excellence

  • Proven experience delivering both large scale (10k+ people) and more intimate executive (C-suite) events to a very high standard on behalf of a broad range of customers and prospects.

  • Skilled contract negotiator with a demonstrated track record of finding creative ways to do more with less within the confines of allocated budgets.

  • Unwavering drive for results, with the ability to manage independently and take calculated risks

  • Decisive, action-oriented, and able to motivate, inspire, and lead cross-functional teams in different geographies and business units

  • Self-starter with a sense of urgency and a desire to be part of building something new.

  • Ability to succeed in a innovative, and rapidly evolving industry and business organization

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $187,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $278,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
