This position contributes to Starbucks’s success by formulating and implementing an enterprise-wide fraud & loss prevention management structure aligned with business goals. While in the near term focusing on North American company-owned locations, the position will look to collect and disseminate industry-leading practices across Starbucks’s global operating footprint in both company-owned and license-operated stores.

As the director of fraud, loss prevention & investigations, you will...

  • Define the fraud and loss prevention strategy and policy. Develop and implement a service that fosters a proactive and preventative retail environment, reducing risk and protecting the financial health of the business.

  • Build and implement a training and communication roadmap to instill a strong and lasting leadership culture of loss prevention behaviors and acumen.

  • Serve on the Enterprise Fraud Steering Committee which provides global oversight to fraud awareness, mitigation, and monitoring/reporting of fraud prevention controls.

  • Provide expert counsel on risk management processes and preventative measures/controls to reduce risk and loss.

  • Define the prevention services and technology requirements to maintain and modernize fraud detection systems and methodologies. Develop tactics to identify new fraud risk trends and put in place actions to deter or eliminate them.

  • Lead the investigative team and be responsible for conducting confidential internal and due diligence investigations.

  • Provide oversight and consultation to the Cash Management Program team to ensure a proactive system approach to deterring losses, including enhanced operational activities, leadership oversight routines, and system/reporting improvements.

  • Provide partners with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities in support of professional growth and team effectiveness.

  • Model and act in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.

We’d love to hear from people with:

  • 10 years of progressive experience in investigations or loss prevention at a major enterprise, public or private.

  • 5 years of leadership experience including strategic development and implementation of security programs in a major multi-unit business operation or major law enforcement agency.

  • 5 years experience in a collaborative work environment and demonstrated ability to influence decisions across functional areas

  • 5 years experience in working with international teams and a variety of stakeholders, including an ability to execute strategy to deliver solutions

  • Proven track record of implementing innovative fraud detection systems and techniques

  • Strong analytic skills with the ability to visualize, articulate, and solve complex problems/concepts

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills across a cross-functional audience – up, down, and across all levels of the organization

  • Ability to establish cross-functional, collaborative relationships with business and technology partners

  • Ability to advise and influence across the organization regarding fraud management best practices, risk analysis, and risk mitigation

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND, or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
