The Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for a Temporary Digital Pathology Assistant to join their team!
The Digital Pathology Assistant (Laboratory Technician 2) will, with oversight from the Director of Digital Pathology and Digital Imaging Coordinator, be responsible for processing incoming pathology digital imaging requests. This includes receiving histologic slides for digitization, ensuring appropriate documentation is in place to process the request, digitize slides using a digital pathology whole slide scanner, and organize and manage scanned slides in database software. The digital pathology assistant will work with pathology slide specimens, patient and lab information throughout the course of activities. The digital pathology assistant will contribute to planning, developing, and validating digital workflows and automation tools for digital pathology.
Responsibilities:
• Operate pathology whole slide scanners by loading new slides to digitize, track progress of resulting images in software database, QC image quality of resulting images. • Data entry into digital whole slide image management system (IMS), manage and assign images to workflows in IMS. • Participates in meetings and planning in implementing digital workflows in pathology operations. • Contributing to developing and validating automation algorithms and analysis tools for digital pathology. • Pickup and return of slide materials for imaging requests to/from pathology labs and offices.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS One year of college with course work emphasizing laboratory science; OR one year’s experience performing routine laboratory work, or equivalent.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience with programming languages Python, R • Demonstrated knowledge of digital image concepts, including image formats, resolution, bit-depth, and image adjustments • High attention to detail • Experience with medical terminology • Experience with histology slide preparation • Comfortable working with web-based software • Comfortable recognizing and responding to software errors • Experience working in environments with HIPAA regulated data • Experience working in laboratory setting.
