More than four years ago, we began our journey to transform our approach to data and analytics from a batch-centric platform with siloed data marts, to our Nordstrom Analytical Platform (NAP), a real-time, event-streaming-centric, analytical platform that provides high quality, pre-stitched 360 views of our customers, products and inventory data for better insights, near real time business insights and prediction engine. As we focus on the evolution of NAP platform 2.0 over the next couple of years these four data strategy pillars, Data Democratization, Data Integrity, Data Sharing and Decision Automation, are front and center. This will help to achieve user enablement & agility, individuals' empowerment to use the data in decision making, make business more agile and share data securely & efficiently. Data Analytics and AI is a strategic focus area for the company.

We are seeking a Data Engineering Manager who is passionate about data and to lead Transportation Analytics within the Nordstrom Analytic Platform and its technical evolution . The Transportation squad builds near real time streaming pipeline that turn into essential metrics and KPI’s that feed strategic and operational decision-makers. Our manager needs to have a balance of technical leadership and people management skills that empowers the team to deliver compelling features.

In this role you will work closely with domain Tech Partners, Product Management, TPM, Data Science, Analytical users to deliver our vision and value for our customers. You will be supporting a team of talented onshore and offshore engineers that have a breadth of experience using Nordstrom’s tech stack and building data products. This opportunity also provides various avenues to collaborate and influence several other platforms within Nordstrom Technology and have a company-wide impact – both business and engineering.

You are responsible for…

  • End-to-end delivery of insights to our data users from the ingestion and organization of data in our platform to the analysis and presentation of insights to the business.

  • Developing and fostering a healthy and collaborative culture for your them that embodies both industry best practices and Nordstrom values.

  • Growing and developing an incredible team of talented and motivated engineers with high expectations around individual ownership and impact

  • Deep understanding of data engineering principles and treating data as first-class citizen

  • Influencing key decisions on architecture and implementation of scalable, reliable, and cost-effective engineering solutions. Ensuring data quality and governance is maintained across projects.

  • Being the bar raiser, pushing the limit on hos solutions are designed and built, how systems are operated and how we support our engineers to deliver better experiences for our customers.

You own this if you have...·B.S. or M.S. degree in Computer Science or comparable experience· 5+ years of relevant work experience and 2+ years leading teams ·Demonstrable experience owning and operating business critical systems servicing internal and external customers·Deep experience in development, are comfortable working in code and skilled at explaining and advocating for new technologies and solutions.·Profound care for your people and the desire to help those who want to help themselves

You seek the best solution for the company and customer and take action without being directed·The capability to truly listen to our customers and partners, internalize their needs and develop simple and elegant solutions that they can’t live without·A bias towards action guided by evidence-based decision-making mindset·Possess relevant experience with machine learning and data science concepts·Experience in AWS/GCP, Kafka, Java, Spark, Kubernetes, Python, Avro, data modeling, and SQL.

Pay Range Details

The pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different in other locations.

Washington: $141,000-$258,000 annually

This position may be eligible for performance-based incentives/bonuses. Benefits include 401k, medical/vision/dental/life/disability insurance options, PTO accruals, Holidays, and more. Eligibility requirements may apply based on location, job level, classification, and length of employment.
