Amergis Cytotechnologist in Seattle, Washington
The Cytotechnologist stains, mounts, and studies cells todetect evidence of cancer, hormonal abnormalities, and other pathologicalconditions following established standards and practices.
The Cytotechnologist coordinates and participates inspecialized and complex technical tasks involved in screening slides ofclinical specimens to detect evidence of abnormalities and pathologicalconcerns.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinates and participates in specialized and complextechnical tasks involved in screening slides of clinical specimens for evidenceof cancer or other pathological conditions to include marking abnormalities,recording diagnoses and filing cases for subsequent review with pathologist
Coordinates technical activities in the cytology preparatorylaboratory and monitor day-to- day activities of the cytology laboratory
Reviews patient history for each case; coordinates files ofslides, diagnosis and laboratory reports
Maintains files of teaching slides for cytology students
Evaluates collected laboratory data and prepares reportssetting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations forconclusions
Prepares work assignments ensuring adequate manning forperformance of laboratory tasks
Reviews work of lower level employees and assists in thetraining of new personnel
Performs additional duties: cytopreparation, computerliaison, daily lab workflow coordination for cytoprep and screening
Maintains effective laboratory operations by adhering tostandards of specimen collection, preparation and laboratory safety
Adjusts, maintains, or repairs laboratory equipment such asmicroscopes as required
Adheres to all Amergis and worksite rules, policies andprocedures
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree in biological science or relatedfield preferred.
One (1) 1 year of experience as a Cytotechnologistpreferred.
Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice
Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency programwhen applicable
Current CPR if applicable
TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)
Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site
Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements
Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and fromappropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required
Computer proficiency required
Must be at least 18 years of age
