Amazon's Legal Department is looking for a talented attorney to support Amazon Web Services (AWS). This Corporate Counsel role may be located in Arlington VA or Seattle, WA.

We’re looking for a products counseling attorney to support some of AWS’s most cutting-edge artificial intelligence and machine learning tools and services. In this role, you will work directly with the business team as lead counsel to develop new AI/ML focused products and services, with duties including: identifying legal risks and proposing mitigations strategies; advising on regulatory and compliance matters - including privacy, intellectual property, and go-to-market strategy; drafting and negotiating commercial licensing agreements; providing day-to-day input on business strategy; and analyzing and contributing to AI/ML policy and responsible use positions around the world. This role will give you the opportunity to work with a variety of stakeholders including engineers, scientists, privacy, public relations, and public policy teams.

We hire attorneys with experience in a variety of practice areas, including (but not limited to) litigators, general corporate, mergers & acquisitions, technical transactions, intellectual property, telecommunications, real estate, products, regulatory compliance, and privacy. We don’t expect every applicant to have experience working with cloud computing and we are looking for candidates who are willing to learn and develop alongside our team. Most importantly, we hire smart people of all backgrounds and experiences who demonstrate leadership and sound judgment in ambiguous situations. We need lawyers with solid legal training, who are motivated, curious, humble, and who have a good sense of humor.

Basic Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent

  • Experience in transactional and technology licensing or equivalent

  • 5+ years of legal experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of internet, software, and media industries and the legal and regulatory environment in which they operate or equivalent

  • Familiarity with artificial intelligence and machine learning, cloud computing, IP technology and licensing transactions, data privacy, and product counseling

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong analytical, written and oral communication

  • Curiosity, and a willingness to learn and grow in a team environment

  • Ability to work independently and as a part of cross-functional teams

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $123,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
