Port of Seattle Corporate Budget Manager in Seattle, Washington

Some of what you'll be doing:

As a Corporate Budget Manager, you will provide leadership, professional support, and expertise in annual budgeting, monthly and quarterly financial reporting processes. You will also coordinate budgeting activities and ensure compliance with financial policies and regulations.

  • You will support the Director of Corporate Budget in the development and management of corporate and Port-wide budget planning and guidelines, ensuring alignment with the organization’s goals and objectives.

  • You will develop reports and presentations that accurately communicate the corporate and Port-wide financial performance to the executive team, the commission team, and external stakeholders.

  • You will provide coaching and training on budgeting, financial management, and ad-hoc Management Information System (MIS) training for department managers and Port-wide budget support staff, including division Senior Financial Analysts.

  • You will analyze and review the organization's financial data to identify trends, patterns, areas for improvement, and evaluate the organization's financial health, profitability, and growth potential.

  • You will provide leadership and support to Port-wide initiatives, including Women & Minority Business Enterprise (WMBE) goals setting, Equity in Budget, Equity Change Team, Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities & Threats (SWOT) Analysis, and Port-wide/Corporate budget target setting.

  • You will manage the annual Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award application process, which includes continuously improving the budget document, highlighting and implementing key changes between the preliminary budget to the final budget, responding to comments received from prior year review, completing all the Detailed Criteria Location Guide, and submitting the application package.

  • You will support the development and implementation of an efficient and effective budget system and tools in the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.

  • You will participate in system projects and collaborate with various internal and external business partners on change needs, resolving cross-process and end-to-end business process issues.

Who you are:

  • Experienced – You have five (5) years of experience performing financial analysis and/or financial management, including budget development and reporting experience, to include one (1) year of experience leading or mentoring staff and/or project or program.

  • Desired – We hope you have a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. We hope you are a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

You can effectively analyze financial data, and identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Efficient Communicator – You possess advanced skills and abilities to communicate complex financial information in a clear and concise manner to both financial and non-financial stakeholders. You can also provide guidance and mentorship to team members.

  • Technically Skilled – You have advanced proficiency with standard office software and financial software and tools, including Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, budgeting and forecasting software, and data visualization tools. You can identify and apply new technologies to enhance job effectiveness and adapt to new technologies.

What else you need to know:

  • Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. You may be required to work during emergencies.

  • Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management’s discretion.

  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
