Summary of Position: Maintain the vessels in a state of readiness to perform work for customers as needed. Perform work as advised by captain of vessel. Job includes pulling heavy lines, climbing onto and walking on barges, boats and narrow barge walkways. Deck must be hosed down and free of lines (all gear must be put away when not in use). Make up all tows, and multiple barge tows as directed by captain. Deck personnel are trained to perform the following skills in addition to other skills required by the captain and/or the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Cooking duties include: Preparing family-style meals for crew members and occasional guests of the vessel. Prices and requisitions food stuffs and cleaning supplies within established budgets. The cook prepares a meal plan based on the duration of the voyage that includes providing a balanced diet and good variety. Qualifications: Must possess and maintain US Coast Guard Merchant Mariners Document (MMD) or Merchant Mariners Credential (MMC). Must possess Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). Maintain Able Bodied Sea farer (Seaman) endorsement, AB limited with a valid STCW endorsement is preferred. A minimum of 1 year of operational experience with working on deck of a tugboat. Unexpired driver's license. Valid passport. Able to work weekends, holidays, and at night. Must be a current member of the Union, or able to join the Union upon hire ServSafe or Food Safety certification preferred Experience cooking family style meals for 6-12 people Essential Functions: Cook meals 3 meals a day and healthy snack and quick meal options for crew members Prepare grocery orders and supply requisitions Maintain inventory for voyage Proper foodhandling to ensure food quality, freshness and food safety Maintain galley equipment as needed; a general maintenance checklist is provided explaining what equipment needs repair, replace or new parts, etc Maintain cleanliness and houskeeping of the galley and food storage Use the VHF portable radio. Ability to splice lines and perform lubrication services. Properly tie off barge tows, raft tows, etc. Give direction and distance signals and information. Use equipment on the tug -- winches, capstan, peavey, pike pole, pumps. Participate and work on deck for Make up multiple barge tows Assist with general maintenance and housekeeping onboard tug and deck. Take on fuel and water, and pump bilges. Performs special duties and other projects as assigned. Adheres to all company policies.
