Housing & Food Services (HFS) provides on-campus housing to over 10,000 student residents and operates over 40 dining and café locations that serve the entire campus community. POSITION PURPOSE This cook position is responsible for supporting the Don James Center Training Table with cooking, food preparation, and leadership of a dynamic culinary team in production of high-quality meals for UW athletes. Providing nutrition to power performance, this position plays an important role in supporting nutritionally optimal meals for athletes and coaches.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Using CBord recipes and specifications, prepare menu items including proteins, vegetables, fruits, starches, and sauces. • Review recipes and consult with the unit’s designated culinarian (Sous Chef, Manager or Chef de Cuisine) to confirm production goals and service needs. Seek prior approval before deviation from assigned recipes and specifications. • Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers in taking orders, plating, cooking off and/or serving. • Develop and maintain positive and professional working relationships with classified staff and subordinates. • Provide direction to Food Service Workers and student staff as needed. • Monitor prepared foods to ensure proper holding temperatures and handling are in compliance with Washington State health code regulations, including required temperature log entries. • At the end of the shift, disposition all food that has been on display or held in the kitchen according to Washington State Health Code and UW Dining policies and procedures. • Ensure that all items in walk-in and in other storage areas are properly labeled. • Maintain records of foods produced, foods wasted. • Ensure that security and safety requirements are met; follow up with staff and supervisor on any issues. • Participate in cleaning the kitchen’s tables and equipment. • At the end of the shift, review par levels to ensure that station is properly stocked for the next day and submit orders through CBord. • May perform additional data entry of daily production/waste records in CBord.

POSITION DIMESIONS The position is an eleven-point-five-month cyclic position that works January through mid-December. While staff are hired into specific positions, they may be reassigned to a different unit or schedule with two weeks of notice.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS • Possession of, or eligible to obtain a Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of employment AND one year of experience preparing and serving food and maintaining clean work area; or equivalent education/experience.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.

CONDITITONS OF EMPLOYMENT • A satisfactory outcome from the employment verification and reference check processes. • Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of employment.
